God bless our men and women in dangerous, far away places who steadfastly stand vigilant to protect our way of life. Thank you.

Thank you Tramp!

I no longer see the red poppies anywhere (in reference to the poem, "In Flanders Field") but I still remember, and always will. Many years ago, my son's school's book fair spanned this date, and I set up a separate "Lest We Forget" table which had a variety of books relating to the personal sacrifices of war. It was decorated with flags, and a vase of poppies (artificial) which I had to explain to most of the younger parents.

Tramp - you beat me to it - I was going to start a thank you thread for all our veterans, and especially you. Thanks to all and to all the families of vets out there who have kept the home fires burning.

They still sell the red poppies here during Memorial Day Weekend. I always buy one as my father taught me, but now I do so in his honor. Every year for Veteran's Day my local newspaper prints the names of local vets who are no longer with us as a tribute to their sacrifices... its so sad to see his name there now even though I know how proud he was to serve his country.

Thank you Tramp.
Thank you to all who serve. . .may we all learn from you to share the blessings we receive.
And a thank you to my dad, who I always remember on this day. His service during World War II was his greatest pride. Even though he's no longer with us, I won't forget.

And for my fellow Canadian vets:

It's that time of year again. Dedicated to those who have given in the past, so that we may enjoy peace of the present and future.

Not since the Korean War have we lost soldiers on the battlefield of this magnitude, Totalling 72 at the time of this writing. Now, more than in recent years we need to take the time to remember, to honour their sacrifices to secure our future of peace. This note is dedicated to the families of our lost soldiers. Our sincerest condolences to you.

Nothing seems to circulate at this time of year in recognition of Remembrance. I've taken a collection of a variety of paraphernalia, facts, figures and death tolls, and put them together into one document complete with links (if read online) to informative sites on the Internet for easy viewing. Great for younger minds who might be unaware of the sacrifices made, and a reminder for those who are all too aware.

I ask again that each of you give this the widest distribution (if you wouldn't mind) hoping that maybe more will take the time to remember on the 11th, and not take it just another day off work or school.

^Thanks, Monty. :D

I believe you're not truly Canadian 'till you end up accidentally stabbing yourself in the chest 3 years in a row from the poppies.

OT: Our band played "O Canada" and I played "Last Post" on Friday for the school ceremonies. I was supposed to sing in the men's choir at church today, but... well, stuff came up. :(

In the what it's worth department, we went to a mall in Massachusettts today and saw parents lined up with their kids to see Santa. :brick::brick::brick:

As a former Navy brat and belonging to a family with retired military personnel, there is always that part of me that will never forget. I have the utmost respect for the men and women who bravely defend our nation whether on land, sea, or air. Thank you all so much.

Grandpa Lane's life was cut short at 61 because of his years in Korea.

Wish he was still here today, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

He was very proud of what he gave up for his country.

18 years later, he's the reason I visit this sight at all.

First trip to "Disneys World" was 22 years ago with Grandpa Lane.

Bless you all who are stronger than me and give what you give.
