How is this helping out fans of Disney? It would help *A* fan of DIsney, someone who would conceivably own Walt's passport because I GAVE that person money, along with many many other people. What do any of the rest of us get out of it?

If the Walt Disney Company was interested, they would have contacted the seller personally, offering him a high bid than what he could get on Ebay. Trust me, this doesn't concern them...
