Vegas is like Epcot

Even with 2 there is competition. I think the Wynn, Vici and Apollo are there too, but it's still better than Disney who seemingly think they compete with themselves or maybe politicians.

Disney competes with Universal, Merlin, and Sea World in central Florida.

That many people dont consider those other options as competition is not a Disney problem.

There is a reason on the Strip all the 5 dollar blackjack tables disappeared seemingly overnight. They went away along with the 3:2 blackjack payouts on lower end tables. It’s because the “competition” is a facade on the Strip.

Disney content is still Disney content and they’ve gotten by on it for a long time.

Disney competes indirectly with other travel destinations and ultimately it does mean they’ll have to step up their game. We are somewhat seeing it now.

The problem within Disney is they don’t see anyone as “real” competition and they are somewhat right in the short term. That’s why it’s so bad now. Things in Vegas move a lot quicker bc the competition is literally next door. Disney is a vacation spot and it’s sometimes hard to see the competition bc in the bubble, there is none.

I don’t know what people’s vision of Vegas quick is but they have a resort that sat half built since 2007 (Fountainebleau) which might be finished beginning of 2024 and some real mousetrap of hotels still running in existence. The bakery at Boardwalk sitting without a roof looks almost acceptable compared to it. Almost acceptable!

As for other similarities, when the sky-bridges from the Disney Springs garages start having buskers, photo opportunities with lingerie starlets and the drugged up homeless guy with a dog than we can really start making comparisons. I wonder can we have people on sidewalks handing out “baseball cards” in the world?

I don't think Disney and Vegas are very comparable. Especially in the context of "budget." Disney is a single entity doing things all over the world. Las Vegas has numerous corporate entities (many own more than one casino/resort) so the money is coming from different places. Also, despite trying to become a "family" vacation destination at one point, LV has departed from that mentality and is considered an adult playground. The things that separate Disney from Vegas is that it is truly family friendly. I feel safe in Disney parks. Disney parks have a tradition of being extremely clean. I am always amazed at how quickly a Disney parade route lined by 10s of thousands (many of which have left their trash everywhere) is cleaned up in the wake of the parade. Not so much in Vegas. Then there are all of the sex purveyors who line the sidewalks in several areas flipping their "business cards" at you as you walk past (even if you're pushing a stroller). That all being said, I don't hate Vegas. I have visited there many times for business and pleasure and I love the immersive resorts, shopping and food. I could care less about the gambling but the themed resorts are awesome. Some have changed a bit after changing hands (Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur are all owned by the same company, I believe and the Luxor--which still has its original Egyptian theming, has lost much of it.
