Value Resort Suites vs. Dining

I think we can count this as my first official post just to vent... LOL! :D

I always understood the way they worked the free dining specials in relation to what sort of resort you're staying at was based on the cost of the room (moderate, deluxe, value). Now that we've decided on this next trip we want to stay in a Cars Suite at AoA I'm realizing that, being a "value" resort, Quick Service Dining is what's included, even though the room is twice what a moderate is per night. It's slightly frustrating and somewhat ironic to see it offering me, as an alternative, a stay at Caribbean Beach that includes the "Dining Plan" (with TS) for way less. The room is half the size and half the price but it comes with a better "benefit." It just seems so backwards.

Ok I feel better now, thanks! LOL!

Last year my family stayed at All-Star Sports, and we got a double room (it connected with the one next door) and OK dining.

I know what you're talking about. We've stayed at the ASMu suites back when the offer was the reg. dining plan (for all resort levels)... after it became the Quick Service DDP I was frustrated because the price of the room certainly justified Disney offering the reg. DDP. I can only imagine how you feel about AoA b/c those suites are even more expensive still.

Yeah and that's really the frustration. If the rooms were more expensive than a typical value more less than a moderate I'd be fine with it but the AoA suites are way more than a room at a typical moderate so the least they could do is give you the regular DP instead of the QSDP. Oh well... cest le vie!

It is one of those things where they have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. No matter where they draw it, someone will take issue with it. A person getting a room at DVC resort could easily make the same argument that they should get the deluxe dining plan for free since they could get plus dining with just a moderate resort.

What I would do is look into how a room discount would compare to free dining. Depending on your party size it just might be a better deal for you if available.

Oh sure I totally understand the why, I'm just venting about it. :D

And yeah we play with the discount options a lot before booking to see what makes the most sense. I think I probably build at least 10 trips before finally settling on one. LOL!

Ask if you can just pay the difference between the two plans

That's why we went with a moderate. By paying to upgrade to table service at a value it was only $150 less than picking a moderate with table service included.

Would you believe that for our upcoming December trip, it was only $27 more to switch to a Mod than to upgrade to the regular plan at Pop Century! You better believe we switched to CBR!!

Yeah it's cheaper to stay at CBR than to stay at AoA and upgrade to the normal DDP. Unfortunately right now for us, the stay at AoA is actually the "decided" part of the trip. We may not ever do it again (we usually stayed at ASMo so we're talking a huge price difference) but we made a decision that we would go at least once and splurge for our DS6. :D

If it means anything to you, I started this thread on the price of the Art Of Animation suite back in April:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/value-resort-costs-more-than-deluxe.835413/

Several people didn't appreciate me suggesting that an AOA suite cost more than a single room at a Deluxe Resort.o_O
LOL! Thanks and yeah I noticed that. It's for that reason that this is less about the cost of the room and more about how I wish Disney would associate which "free" dining plan you get with that cost instead of how the resort is categorized.

I agree with you. If it is about price, then they should offer it to you.

There needs to be some sort of specifications. You are upset over not receiving the Plus dining plan like a moderate guest is, but a deluxe resort guest might be upset about only receiving the Plus plan like a moderate guest and not getting the Plus Deluxe, Premium or Platinum dining plan. If someone is staying at GF in a suite, they should really get the Platinum then if it about $$.

I'm not saying it is right or wrong but there needs to be some determination if they are going to continue this.

Oh I think the determination is made. Value gets Quick Service. Moderate gets Regular. Deluxe gets Deluxe. I seriously doubt they'll change that but gosh it sure seems they could base it off the total per night price of the room instead. Thing is, I could see that being a nightmare to maintain/explain. It's a lot easier for Disney to say Category 1 gets X, Category 2 gets Y, etc.

It was a bit of a bitter pill to swallow when we booked our stay at AoA for... 20 DAYS FROM NOW!!!

Sorry. Getting a little excited.

On the other hand, I wasn't expecting the AoA suites to be discounted at all. So, I took it as an overall win. Like you, this will probably be a one-time thing for us.

I'm not a fan of AoA or the dining plans. I mention this only to own up to it and not to slam either one. If it floats someone else's boat, I'm all for it. :)

I do think, though, for the amount of money they charge people to stay in those AoA "suites", they ought to give them a better dining plan.

However, anyone who will pay all that money to stay in an AoA suite and buy a dining plan (whether it is called "free" or not, you buy it) probably isn't too interested in value for the money and will suck it up and go there, anyway. If they don't, Disney will surely change the plan they offer there.
