I am going back to disney world this march for the 6th time and was wondering if anyone has taken the keys of the kingdom tour and where exaclty are the hidden tunnels leading to the utilitors? Are they easy to spot in the magic kingdom?

ok.. pretty much any door @ MK that says: "Cast Members Only" leads down there... but don't go peeking there. Any guest caught wandering down there that isn't in a tour group will have their tickets revoked and will be escorted off property.

I had taken this tour a few years ago. It is a great tour that eventually makes it to the "tunnels". I entered in the tunnels near the Snow White ride. I saw Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum without their heads!! :lookaroun

We didn't go through the whole tunnel system but did go through the area the cast members pick up / drop off costumes and looked at wigs and stuff. I encourage you to take this tour. You will learn a lot and it is a great time. Plus they take you on a few rides and you don't even have to wait in line.

keys tour

This tour is really great. I took it in June and they tell you all you need to know and more. The "tunnels" aren't all they're cracked up to be. It just like going down the hall in an office building or being in somebody's basement. However we did see one of the 7 dwarfs and tweedle dee without heads and they looked just as shocked to see us as we were to see them.

My brother, 2 best friends, and I took the Backstage Magic Tour which goes in the Utilidors and the offices behind the Main Street Building facades.

There are about 20 staircases that lead down to the "tunnels" throughout the park, as you can see on the map referenced above. 4 of those stairways go from the "basement" to the 2nd floor of the Main Street Offices, which are hidden behind all the fake fronts. The MAIN entrance to the Utilidors is located between the Ride Buildings for 20,000 Leagues and Small World. It's actually just a big opening that you can drive right into behind the park.

The tunnels are pretty industrial - not pretty. They're all concrete and block. At the north end, under Fantasyland, you will find the "Zoo", where characters dress, the hair and make-up depts, as well as cast break rooms. Then, hallways branch off to the different lands. Up front, there are large rooms that house merchandise for the shops and vendors, as well as payroll services and other offices. Behind the windows on the 2nd floor pf Main Street Buildings are the merchandising and park operations offices - all of which we toured.

No they do not. The reason they're in the MK is because Walt was walking through Disneyland and saw a Frontierland Cast Member, dressed as a cowboy or whatever, walking through Tomorrowland to get to the break room. It ruined the theme and he hated it.

Thus, he put in the Utilidors in the MK so that cast members could get from one part of the park to another, unseen.

MGM does not need them because they have nothing to hide there. It's a "working movie lot" and thus, anyone you see is appropriate for any area. The guest is already "backstage".

EPCOT does not have them because it was designed properly. If you take the Backstage Magic tour, you can see this. Once you get behind The Living Seas, you can take a road all the way around the park, back to Universe of Energy. There is a road that runs a loop around the park, and thus there is no need to cross the park to get anywhere to work - except for cast members who work in Innoventions, Spaceship Earth, and some misc gift shops - they simply walk the short distance from a backstage gate to their working spot. Since they're all in Futureworld, their costumes really don't clash or ruin the atmosphere.

Animal Kingdom is similar to EPCOT in that most of the attractions and major working spots are located on the perimeter, at least the Cast Member entrances are. There is also a road that runs around the entire park, thus allowing access to all points. And again, cast members who work in non-perimeter locations, they simply walk from the nearest backstage gate.

An easy answer would have been, "NO" but I'm thorough, heehee.

there are Utilidors in Epcot underneath parts of futureworld. They're nowhere near as impressive as the MK's, but they are there

Are you positive? I was told by one unreliable source that EPCOT did have a utilidor, and then I was told by a reliable source that the only tunnels in EPCOT were strictly for Utilities, and not for people traffic. Again, 2 sources, different answers - so I guess the only people who REALLY know are those who have been in them :)

Can someone who's been in them please confirm the location of the EPCOT Tunnels, and perhaps where they actually go to and from?

Show control is down there for quite a few attractions, including park audio, RoE etc. It runs between the communicores.

Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh, yeah. I remember SEVERAL years ago, like in the 80s, my family took a brief tour where we sat in this little movie-theater-style room, and looked thru a large glass wall. This HOLOGRAM lady gave us a "tour" of the giant room with all the computers.

It seems more like just a big basement under the Communicores than a tunnel system really. Is there actually access to outside the park or any other areas of the park, or do Cast Members have to get to that area by entering the guest area?

the epcot utilidors are used for storage, show control, and break areas. While they can be used as an exit to certain backstage areas, they aren't necessary.

"they aren't necessary."

I thought this was how characters can go from onstage to offstage really quickly without having to travel in between lands. Also it gets Cinderella into that restaurant real quick.

At MK they are used for that purpose. They do not use them at EC for that reason. As MKT said they are used for storage and such

Heehee, I can easily admit I was wrong. But at the same time, I'd consider that more of a Underground Control Room than Utilidors, which are tunnels, haha.

I was misinformed, and forgetful and misinterpreting the definition of Utilidor - all mushed together :)
