Using Room key as Park Pass?

I just got back from WDW, and at the rainforest Cafe entrance to the AK, I saw a strange scene. A family of 4 were using a single room key to enter the park. The Cast member there kept asking *are you SURE you want to do that?* but this guy seemed to be sure of what he was doing, indicating that was what he did this morning.

We have AP, and I asked the CM afterwards what was up, and she just shook her head saying that guy just charged 4 day passes to his room. For going to lunch.

So is that what really happened? Anyone have ideas on this?? I was guessing he had a length of stay pass...

They might not have bought tickets, and instead just reserved a room -- and if they had enabled charging to their room key, it would have charged when they entered the park. Maybe?

Odd. But also remember that Rainforest Cafe at DAK has two entrances - one inside the park and one outside the gates. So anyone buying admission just to go to Rainforest is either a complete fool or severely underinformed...

Back in the day when you had to pay to get on PI I saw many people pay the $20 walk into PI and the head straight to the West side or the Marketplace so them thinking that they had to pay the park admission to eat at Rainforest is not beyond the realm of possibilities.

I mistakenly put my room key card in the card reader one day last month instead of my AP card.

What happened? NADA, I was wondering why the turnstile wouldn't roll and Biometric light wouldn't work. My wife (behind me) and the CM both realized @ the same time my screw-up and I quickly switched cards and entered as usual.

There was no additional charge to my room account. I doubt there's even any way to purchase a park admission via the turnstile gate, but I could definitely be wrong.....

If you CAN'T do this already, it would be pretty cool if they started implementing it. I think its a pretty good idea, but it might take some complicated machinery. It would also save paper.
