Using Pins in Scrapbooking

I was wondering if anyone uses pins for embellishments in their scrap booking. I bought a ton of pins on our trip and thought the best way to show them off would be along with the pictures in our scrapbook. What would be the best way of going about putting pins on pages and making them not stick out of the page so much, I thought about putting foam board on the back of each page, but thought i would get some ideas from you guys to see if anyone else had a better idea.

It sounds like a cute idea but I have never tried to do it. I would think that it would poke up a lot. I am sure that if it can be done, someone on here will know how. :)

That's a good idea! I suppose if you had something on the back then the pin would not stick out as much, but it might make your pages a little bulky. Try it and let us know how it works!

sorry i have no suggestions for pins. since i have never added anything to a traditional page except paper type embellishments.

but instead of the actual pin, could you scan it and make a photo of it, then cut it out? then to make it stick up a little bit, could you put (i don't know what they are called) but those sticky thicker foam stickie things, (sorry but i really don't know what they are called, and i don't know how to describe them)

welcome to the scraping forums!

I have used the buttons they hand out for birthdays, first trip etc at each of the parks on my pages. I just have my husband remove the actual stick pin part from the button. As far as the trading pins, I have not used those. I just collect them...another obssession. I have used pins, for my dad's navy scrapbook. Again, I just had my husband cut off the pointed part so it would lay flat. They will never be used for their original purpose again.

My recommendation was also going to be to take off the point on the back. Then it would lay flat.

I haven't used any, but some of them are so adorable I have definitely thought about it! I was going to use one on a pin trading page I made, but I couldn't use my kids pins, I'd have to buy my own. Maybe when my kids lose interest in theirs.

I've used pins in some of my layouts, and all I did was cut the point (not sure what to call it but you know what I mean I'm sure...the pointy part! lol ;)) off and then I believe I glued it on. It didn't leave the back completely flat but it sat quite well on the page and really looked great with the layouts, I think.
I'll try to remember to post them soon to show you what I mean.

I'm not a regular scrapbooker, so take what I say with a grain of salt. :)
The first thing that came to mind was the same that others mentioned above - taking the back off the pin and then glue it to the page.

But, if you wanted to keep the pin intact, perhaps you could put ribbon, tied on each end (resembling a tootsie roll shape), hot glue the ribbon to the page and attach the pin on the ribbon. That way it wouldn't stick out that much more than the knots in the ribbon - and if the ribbon was pulled tight enough, the pins won't flop around on the page.

An example of what I mean:

Now, no laughing allowed at my little stick figures in the pictures. Ok ok...you can laugh.

Hopefully all that makes sense or least gives you some more ideas.

I'm not laughing, I'm so impressed you took the time to draw it out!!!

I think that might work for preserving the pin. Your idea also made me think that if you didn't mind how fat the page would be, you could put pop dots on the back side of the pin, beside the pointy thing:)lol: ). My pop dots are at least as wide as the pointy thing. Then you don't damage the pin should you ever want it for some reason!

Thanks for all the great ideas guys. I have seen pin traders with booklets with tons of pins in them on these special sheets, where would I get some of these sheets because i was thinking gluing paper to one of those sheets and then sticking pin through paper into one of those, its been a while since Ive seen one of those collectors books so Im not sure if that would work.

I haven't posted photos before so hopefully this works, if not I'll try again.

Here is the back of the pin after removing the point:

There is still a bit that sticks out as you can see but it is pretty flat, works well on the page. I had wrote I used glue to stick it down but in fact I had used double stick tape...I'm sure either would work but beacuse the tape is fairly thick it seemed to work best and didn't really raise it very much more off the page; still quite flat.
Here it is on the page...
