Second... Why is there a disdain about Pixar (Disney!) characters being added to the parks? Sure, I can see where some think that Stitch was overused, but that's only one example that seems to be used as an excuse for some to want ALL Pixar characters banned.
Oh, don't please don't get me wrong, i LOVE Pixar. I don't buy that many DVD's, i just rent them, figuring i won't watch it more than once or twice, but i always buy the Pixar movies the week that they come out.
I think the problem that people have with Pixar is that they're being shoe-horned in where they don't really belong. Woody doesn't belong in Frontierland because he's a toy, not a "real" cowboy. Buzz fits slightly better into Tommorowland because they were 'tooning up the place, and he's not really treated as a "toy" on the ride, but as a real person, but at his core, the movie he originated in is a child's fantasy.
Nemo is pretty good for the Living Seas, but again, its turning something realistic about science into something more fantastical and kid-oriented.

It's a fine line to walk, because on one hand, they're GREAT characters full of personality and nuance, but on the other, there's no good place where they fit PERFECTLY, the way the princesses go into Fantasyland.

So is that the question then? Do the Three Cabelleros fit "perfectly" into World Showcase, or is it cramming a square peg into a round hole?

I can definitely see your point on that. I might not have a huge problem with Monsters Inc going into Tomorrowland (It's already Fantasyland East anyways), but I can see why some people would. Both sides have valid arguments on that one, IMO.

Yes I guess that is the question and I would have to go with square peg in round hole right now.

I still can't figure out how the Animatronics on the right of the boat, near the volcano are so lifelike! It looks like they're actuallly EATING FOOD! pretty impressive!

I saw that on Modern Marvels on the history channel. They simply use Margaritta powered hydraulic actuators. The Jose Quervo in the fluid makes it run smoother!:sohappy:

This rumor happened before in 1999....

I don't know if this was already mentioned, but there was a previous rumor of adding the Three Caballeros to "El Rio Del Tiempo" in 1999 when it was taken down for refurbishment and supposed update for the Millenium celebration. Here is a link to a very comical duo that used to write gag stories about different rides. This one was about "El Rio Del Tiempo" written in 1999, and they mention the rumored update. Very funny stuff. It's called "Iago & Zazu's Attraction of the Week".

Anyhow, the rumor has been a long time coming. I wonder what they will do, if ever.

When they add characters to rides, they are not really doing it for the rides sake. It's cross merchandising - they are selling the character and everything associated with that character. The Living Seas rehab - it's basically making a mini-micro Nemo theme park in one building.

I don't see how adding the Three Caballeros will do anything for that purpose. Outside of the fan base, most people have no idea who they were or even that the movie existed.

I think that it would be possible to update teh ride and still maintain some sense of the classic Disney rides in it. Not necessarily likely, particularly when there is such a trend to make a deep story and go over the top with excitement, but it could be done. AS it stands now, I don't think this one really had the same level of classic charm as Dream Flight or any of the other classic rides. And it really does paint a pretty backwards picture of Mexico. What if it was more like Norway?

Good riddance. If I was Mexican, I would probably be offended by how much that ride sucks. You know it's time for a refurb when the ride is only good if you've been drinking around the world.

It wasn't very realistic, anyway. I mean, heck, I drank straight from the river and didn't even get a touch of Montezuma's Revenge.

Watch it Joel. You might as well have punched my mom in the gut to get me as angry as I am. El Rio Del Tiempo might not be your thing and that's fine, but I'll be damned to see it disrepected.

Also, why'd you drink the water?
