UOR Files Permits For New Hotel

Considering they just spent tens of millions of dollars revamping the place, I highly doubt Dr. Phillips High is going anywhere anytime soon. As a former student this saddens no one more than me. I would love to see that place knocked down and hauled off.

The new resort is going in across Adventure Way from Cabana Bay.

I know you are right. I previously post a response to a similar post that Orlando would be crazy to sell the school. There are at least 5 elections for mayors that I know of who lost elections due to school locations. Also people who graduated from a school never want it to close. This will never happen. Finally the people who live next to the school on the opposite side would fight it. Universal would be crazy to even try to get the school. It would cost too much. The would lose the PR battle and they wouldn't get it in the end.

If they keep adding hotel resorts where will the rumored 3rd gate go?

That is not big enough for a third gate. You have to build parking and other support items. Besides too many other owners. IE hotels that would not want to sell
It is Plenty big enough. The whole plot was under consideration a few years ago. Then the focus shifted across I-4 but I'm told they never totally went cold on the Major plot.

DA appears to be a great example have how much they can do with limited space. Plus other ways such as condensing support buildings or even relocating them if they do not have to function on site. They actually have quite a bit of space from what I have discovered. So many ways they could be planning to go. The rumors of a third gate do not seem so far-fetched anymore or even just greatly expanding the current two parks. Interesting times.

There you go. Plenty of room as I said. IOA on the plot in question. To scale.

Obviously the shape of a future park could be made to fit the plot and it may not have such a large lagoon.

Room for parking too, though i'd assume the existing parking structures would also be expanded as per their design and be connected to any new development via the proposed people moving system.

Also, as with developments over I-4, it isn't as if nothing has been talked about with existing property owners and the city. Because they have been doing. For a few years now.

So why couldn't this happen again?

Aside from the person who just said they wanted to knock it down.

Often hotels and apartment complexes have several floors at the base for parking with the living facilities over that. I was just thinking that there is no reason why theme park infrastructure and attractions could not also be engineered this way. If they need more parking that is. Seems like they will.

Guess they have plenty of land. I learned something new. :bookworm:

I guess there is no reason why Universal can't do whatever they want. After all every property owner would be thrilled to sell their land to Universal or have Orlando use eminent domain and just take it. No one in Orlando would ever complaint. On the otherhand I think if Disney tried to get the legislature to give them the rights they did back in the 60's they would lose the vote. Do you really think Florida is interested in $10.00 an hours jobs at either Disney or Universal? Orlando and that State of Florida are more interested in high paying jobs and would much rather see Lockheen Martin expand than just let let Universal or Disney do whatever they want. What I know Universal wants right now is a water park and 5,000 to 10,000 more hotel rooms. They can do that with no problems but as been previously posted on this site under a different thread the number of employees available in Orlando is limited. Why would someone move to Orlando to take a $10.00 to $15.00 an hour job when they can move elsewhere and make so much more?

This talk of expansion at Universal really seems to make it like it's really happening fast. Very exciting times indeed for Florida theme park fans.
