Unusual Disney Fact

Just thought it would be neat to start a thread where you could post an unusual fact about the world and show off a lil. Everyone has those lil tidbits, and can impress your friends at the drop of a dime (or have them think you are a complete loser) by spouting off that Cinderellas castle is 189 feet tall and made with no bricks, or that the blinking red light in the wand is cleverly disguised in there for air traffic, or the fact that the sand and muck dredged from the 7 seas lagoon is what was used to cover the "tunnel system/ 1st floor at MK"...I thought it would be neat for everyone to post a couple and "Strengthen their Arsenal" a lil bit.

ToT = 199 ft. tall because in Florida, any building 200 + feet has to have a red beaker on top, and the light would throw off the facade of the hotel.

Fun-ish Fact: The Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' RollerCoaster have a seperate power generator from the rest of the Studios as Imagineering calculated that if RnRC launched a car at the same time ToT dropped an elevator, it would bring down the Studios power grid. How 'bout that?

Hmmm...

Cinderella's Castle was elevated during construction because Walt had noted that he didn't think Disneyland's Castle was prominent enough.

One of the flagpoles on Cinderella's Castle has an artificial flag that is a transmitting antenna for coordinating the Main Street parades.

During the fireworks displays you can't ride the WDW Railroad because burning embers may land near the tracks. After the fireworks, CMs walk through these areas to confirm that no fires are present before the train can start carrying passengers again.

In honor of the year that marked the opening of the Magic Kingdom (1971), the Firehouse on Main Street is "Engine Co. 71".

 That's awesome!

It's difficult for me to remember random facts...especially on demand. But I did amaze a couple friends by naming somewhere in the WDW resort based on a description or a photo. The examples: one friend had stayed at a WDW resort but couldn't remember the name. I asked him to describe it, but he was finding it difficult. Until he came to the pool...he mentioned a "dragon" or "dinosaur" (this was about 6 years ago, so I don't remember details) and I said "Oh, you stayed at Port Orleans!"
Another friend was letting me look at pics she had taken during a vacation in FL...they only spent a little bit of time in WDW. I saw a pic of her and her family in a restaurant. I noticed it was kind of dark and had brick walls with writing all over them. "Hey, was this Mama Melrose's?" I asked. She looked at me in amazement and said "HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT JUST BY LOOKING AT THE PICTURE?!" ....little did she know I had just eaten there for my first time not too long before then, so it was pretty fresh in my memory.
Still, it's fun to do that to friends...it may make me a geek or a loser or whatever, but I'll take that as a compliment.

A WDW bus driver ;) told me on my last trip that the Castle and the ToT can both be dismantled within a few hours, if a hurricane ever decides to hit the World...

Oh those bus drivers.

He also said that Walt's head is alive and well, and his brain is the computer that controls IASW.

Because the Tower of Terror can be seen from certain parts of Epcot in the vicinity of Morocco, it was styled in a similar architecture and painted in a similar color in order to blend in and appear apart of the pavilion.

The Magic Kingdom is twice the size of Disneyland.

Epcot is twice the size of the Magic Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom is larger than Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney/MGM Studios combined.

In the MK durning Wishes water is sprayed on the roofs of surrounding buildings incase of falling ashes. The flow of the water starts from the first firework and ends a couple seconds after the last big blast goes off

Morroco in Epcot was built by Moroccan architects as a requirement by the prince to include the country in World Showcase. As a thank you, after the pavilion was completed, the prince gave it to Disney as a gift. It is the only pavilion in World Showcase Disney did not pay for.

When walking through Morocco, take a look at all of the mosaic tile artwork on the walls. You will notice that each mosaic has at least one cracked/flawed tile in it. This is because these mosaics were created by Moroccan artisans in a unique arrangement with the Moroccan gov't and Disney as mentioned before. The Moroccan people worship Allah, and believe that only Allah can create something that is "perfect," so every mosaic was purposely flawed!

The Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain logs sit people side by side, whereas Disneyland's Splash Mountain logs sit people one behind the other.

The Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain rockets sit people one behind the other, whereas Disneyland's Space Mountain rockets sit people side by side.

The Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion has it's Stretching Gallery's ceiling raise, whereas Disneyland's Haunted Mansion has it's Stretching Gallery's floor lower.

Even though EE was built to fit under the 200 foot maximum height limit (so as to not have to have a beacon on the top, which would have ruined the magic), the Florida law states that the 200 foot limit is from the ground level, wherever the building resides. The Imagineers raised the base ground level by 30 feet, prior to building to, the just under 200 feet limitation.

Because Walt Disney wanted to buy all of the swamp land that Disneyworld now sits for cheap he made up fake company names to buy the land with so no one would know he was buying it. You can see some of these names etched in the glass above the main street stores, Walt Disney's name is at the end because the directors name always comes at the end of the movie credits.

They did a survey to see how far people would walk with their garbage before they dropped it and then placed the garbage cans that many feet apart from one another, the garbage cans are also themed to fit into the land so that you only notice them when you need one.

The parrot outside of Pirates used to say "All Hands on ________" instead of "All hands on deck"... I am not sure if it still is there or not.

Imagineers purposely made it so that you could see Cinderella castle far away, for example when you are on the monorail and see the castle it is to get you excited.

The shape of the dinosaur bone sign for The Boneyard at Animal Kingdom was modified by the imagineers to actually form the outline of the perimeter of all of Animal Kingdom.
