Unpopular WDW Opinions

There's another type... those who take unwarranted umbrage when someone states an opinion on something they don't like. I've never said I don't like people with mobility issues, and I don't judge them because they have them. However, this is still the USA, so I still have the right to not like huge strollers or ECVs at WDW. I think they're a safety hazard and take up too much space.

To reiterate: if you use an ECV or a mega-stroller, I'm not judging you... I just don't like how big and hazardous your choice of mobility device is.

And I seem to have the most unpopular opinion in this thread. What do I win?
It is OK to have an opinion. Those two items are a huge invitation for comments. However, I agree with the use of mega-strollers especially for healthy kids beyond a certain age and size. They have an option and that is walking or smaller strollers. However, that may mean multiple single strollers and that wouldn't solve any problem. That only affects them and does not add an additional burden to another family member or a psychological suffering to someone that is dealing with the lack of mobility. That is where ECV's come in. Wheelchairs are when no hope is left and people that still can function would not want to be pushed around in a wheelchair because, well, would you want that to happen to you if you were still able to have some lessened dependency. They fulfill a need that nothing else can. They allow people with either the full problem and the lack of mobility has become an issue, to have a modicum of independence in a life that offers a major roadblock to that. It then can be done with dignity and self pride. If a few, and I think it is a whole lot fewer abuses then it is being blown up to be. With the fact that it has instilled a whole new life to those that are otherwise unable to participate, then it is a small thing to ignore and not become a mountain from a molehill. Remember a fat person may be fat because of that lack of mobility or have nothing at all to do with the usage. Just the need.

I have stated that I have had experience with ECV's and they are not the fun, picnic you folks seem to think they are. They are a lot of extra effort with the current way things are set up. You either have to spend extra money to get one in the park or bring one with you. Either one costing more time, money and energy than a walking person has to expend. Then they have to try and maneuver them safely through throngs of people, and please do not say that anyone intentionally runs into another human being. There is always a reason for that happening and it usually starts with the person that was hit. You have to go to special places to leave them off and pick them back up after a ride. The viewing spots for those machines sucks in many cases. If you have family they still have to stay with you or you with them so this fallacy that they "race" through the parks is a major crock. So that part of it is probably a legitimate gripe, when the helicopter parents do not allow their young to flex a muscle and exercise a little, but, instead ride their lazy butts around all day long. No wonder childhood obesity is such a problem today. Stroller, on a couple of levels, size of the stroller and age of the riders that are healthy, OK. that could improve. But, it is a little less then the milk of human kindness to put down people that have a needed assistance while peacefully enjoying the parks. Believe me, there currently is no advantage to have one of those, at least to the majority of users. We can really be serious about depriving the people in need because we are upset with the few that do not need it. And they are very few.

I wonder which causes more injuries... ECVs, strollers, or people who abruptly stop walking on a crowded path so they can look at their phone.
Probably a bit from all three columns.

I don’t see it as a problem with any of those three either as to why it might happen. It’s a problem with Disney cramming far too many people into the parks. Add SUV sized rolling lockers (which multiple posters have admitted to) ECVs and hordes of humanity addicted to their smart phones? Recipe for disaster.

I have absolutely no problem with people who need ECVs I am aproaching the age where I may some day need one. On the stoller level I again have absolutely no problem with with children with medical issues needing a stroller in fact I wish no child ever had to use one. My complaint is (as others have voiced) the ever increasing size of strollers being used less for children and more for hauling stuff in a place with limited space --- crowds. I suppose like so many things that have changed at WDW stollers is one of them --grin and bear it

^ if you think about it tbe stroller “issue” is because Disney allows it and magnifies the issue due to their pricing on everything.

This in turn causes a vicious feedback loop where moms get bigger strollers to haul more stuff to save more* which in turn means Disney starts charging more.

* there is no “saving” at Disney per say, they're getting their money one way or another. You can lower the cost by a bit but when you look at the totality of the cost of a trip? Yeah...

Yea, y'all are weird :p

But to be fair tho, I find all autographs (fictional character or celebrity) to be a strange phenomena. Selfie or nothing for me.

Possible exception might be historically significant autographs. A President Lincoln autograph would be a keeper.

Hypocrite Disclosure: I have Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, and William Shatners signature. Had dinner with them and it seemed kinda rude to decline. ...also one of my more memorable evenings.

Strollers are an interesting dilemma. Except for the double wides, I have never had an issue. I have been hit by countless strollers, but because they are typically powered by a one mom-powered engine, and I am a 250 pound behemoth, it has never hurt. The only time it ever did hurt was when a sibling, 1/4 the size of mom, ran full speed into me.

Double wides just clog up walkways too badly. As do people walking 3-5 abreast. I am a fast walker (super long legs) and slowing down actually hurts a little (after 8+ hours of walking).

Maybe a rule that only parents can drive strollers?
Boo hoo.

Or we can be considerate of our fellow park goers and use a mode of transport that doesn't involve a 200-pound electric battering ram.

I want to remind anyone who's still reading that this thread is entitled "Unpopular WDW Opinions," not "Let's Bash People With Unpopular Opinions."
Here’s hoping you or someone in your family needs one very soon.

Independence. Any other questions?

I've been to WDW 20+ times. Before kids, with little kids and with our kids in college. The whole ECV/stroller thing is overblown. Traffic happens in the park, some ECV drivers need to have their licenses revoked and double wide strollers take up a lot of room. In the end, none of these things have ever put a big dent in my day. Do I recall having gotten stuck behind one every once in a while? Sure... it was only a problem if I were to fixate on it and make it a problem. Overtired kids are as much or more of a problem... and again, having 10 seconds of empathy in any of these situations until the obstruction disappears into the crowd will allow you to feel a lot better. Mahalo.

- Haunted Mansion is a mediocre ride held in high regard because of nostalgia.
- Magic Kingdom is "only" the third best park at WDW, and could potentially be 4th in the future.

  • Small World is pretty bad and I wouldn't be sad if it were entirely replaced
  • Frozen is perfectly appropriate in Norway
  • Dole Whips suck
  • Adults complaining about children in the parks need to get a life - it's a park designed for families
  • The changes to Pirates of the Caribbean are fine
  • I don't care about the Yeti on Everest

people who abruptly stop walking on a crowded path so they can look at their phone.

I vote for this. But there is also the slight divergence in this group.......where they don't abruptly stop - rather they continue walking (impervious to all around them) until they run right over into someone and react like their personal space has been invaded.

- It’s perfectly OK to replace original rides and lands with IP-based ones, as long as it’s done right

- It’s a bad idea to take infants into the parks

- Price hikes, as much as I dislike them, are necessary for Disney to turn a profit due to inflation

- The removal of the auction scene was long overdue and I welcome the new scene
