Unofficial Guide 2006

I am really bummed out. The release date for the Unofficial Guide 2006 was supposed to be yesterday 08-08-05. I went to Barnes and Noble today and they said they would not have it until the end of the month. I also checked with a second book dealer Waldenbooks and they siad it was not even in their system yet. Has anyone puchased the 2006 book yet? I guesse I will have to buy it at Amazon.

I usually get the Birnbaums book. How is the unofficial guide in comparison? I want to get the 2006 version of one of these books. Thanks

If you look strictly at the numbers:

Birnbaum's is 272 pages.

While the 2006 Unofficial Guide is a bit heavier at 832 pages.

There's waaaaaay more info covered in the Unofficial guide. It's the best Disney book I've found so far. Yeah, Birnbaum's is pretty, what with the glossy pages, official pictures, and the like, but the information provided in the Unofficial Guide is much better, and more in-depth.

We used to buy Birnbaum's but I discovered the Unofficial Guide a few years ago, and we'll never go back.

I second DisneyBunny's comments. In terms of detailed information, you can't go wrong with the Unofficial Guide. It is packed with room information, restaurant guides, park guides, maps, tips for viewing parks, etc. It is hands down the best!!

I agree the Unofficial Guide is the best. Passporter is pretty good too if you want an organizer as well as some useful information. You really can't go wrong with either one. My Unofficial Guide is on its way!

Birnbaums VS UG

I purchased both books for 2005. I only ran out and purchased UG 2006 this time. Birnbaums is a lot lighter that UG 2006, and is definitely light on the info too. Also take this into account: Birnbaums 2005 is 250 pages of pretty pictures and basic information for $16.95 USD. UG 2005 is 726 pages(NOT including the indexes, cut-out touring plans, etc) chock full of tables, formulas, and explanations for $18.99 USD.

Is there even a question?

Hey, guys. Where have you guys been picking up your copies? I made a run Saturday night at a Borders and they didn't have a copy. I checked the in-store computer and they didn't have a copy in the store or anywhere else. In fact they only had the 2005 version listed. :(

Mine just came from Amazon today! Hopefully this will help me make it through the next 8 months until I can actually BE at WDW! Now I just have to wait to get out of work!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!! I called my local Barnes & Nobles and they have four copies, so I had them hold it for me. Going to pick up my copy this afternoon.

I've had the same problem with Border too! I had an e-mail coupon that was good until yesterday, that I had hoped to use, but I couldn't find a Border's near me that had any copies either. I guess I'll have to just go to Barnes & Noble.

Still waiting for my copy (OG and UG) from Amazon.... sigh......

I did the same thing, ordered some other books so I could get free shipping. Also got the Kids Guide as they really enjoyed last years and now if I have 2 maybe they won't argue over it.... maybe.....

This is my opinion as well. I went ahead and purchased both the UG and OG Sunday, took one fan of the pages of the OG and will be returning it tomorrow. Not even worth the time. Now the UG, it is GREAT. The blue print is really calming. Easy to read. I used to just buy the OG because I thought the UG must just be a knockoff. I changed my mind with the 2004 edition and have always been happy with it!

If you want pretty pictures, then the Official is the way to go. They definitely have great pics. The Unofficial has facts that you never even thought of thinking about, but once you see them you think, now that is useful info!

Nothing eats up an 18 hour drive like The Unofficial Guide... The restaurant section, maps, touring ideas, ride information, planning/packing tips, and just about the whole book are second to none...

We are going in DEC, I need my book now...

1; birnbaum's approved by Disney, all positive info

2;Unofficial Guide not approved by Disney, why, because it has negative info where as the other one has none if not very very little. UG tells all positive and negative, and it has helped the family and I enjoy our visits to the max everytime, worth the money.:D

I like the CG Guide the best. It gives you the Pros & Cons On WDW, as well as Universal, Seaworld, Ripley's ETC.

I don't know about the unofficial guide, but we just purchased the Official Birnbaum's Guide 2006 over the weekend. It is great. Lots of new things in it. We have them dating back from...Oh, I don't know when, and keep buying them year after year. Can't say as I have ever bought the Unofficial guide, is it any good?
