I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I'm surprised anyone outside of Japan even cares for this.

Check out the girls department in a Target, Sears, Walmart etc. They always have Hello Kitty items. You can also find items at Toy's R Us. My daughter had a Hello Kitty birthday party and we were able to find plenty of party items at the local Party store.

I can't help but feel this is a bit of a 'B' class IP. Say how much you want about merchandise and how slow Disney are to change but they have Star Wars........ Star Wars is in a league of it's own for merchandise.......
So enjoy Hello Kitty if that's what your into but to say it's a massive gain for Universal is a bit unfounded......

Hello Kitty is 41 years old and makes about 7 billion a year. I'm not saying it's Star Wars or Marvel but culturally it's a big deal with girls.

I still think it pales in comparison to the Disney Princesses franchise. As I said enjoy it if that's what you're into, I just think people may be getting a bit ahead of themselves.
An interesting move from Universal nonetheless....

I always leave Disney with at least one princess item for me and I'm not a big Kitty fan don't own anything. I can see me getting myself something from UNI. So probably a very good move.

Disney Princess is the number one girl market but Hello Kitty is up there. Uni can't have the princesses so adding a runner up to their offerings is smart. They also already have Hello Kitty in their Japan park. It's just a nice addition.

But it does make sense. People are tossing around revenue figures etc and seem to be implying that Disney has remained stagnant. Disney has the Star Wars revival about to happen. Therefore, Disney is not stagnant.

I don't think anyone really things this is that huge of a deal. It's a store and a M&G that comes on the heels of a major attraction, a new hotel and a new water park currently under construction as well as the announcement of a huge IP being planned for attractions in the future. The fact that the best thing you can come up with to defend Disney is Star Wars really say's all anyone needs to know about the current state of Disney.
