Universal Question

Hello all!

I was wondering if Universal can be done in 1 day? I am obsessed with WDW and don't want to spend too much time at Uni if I don't need to. I'd rather spend the extra day in Disney.
It will be me, my DH, DS 17, DD 15, DD 3, D? 9 months...

What do you all think?

Definitely not. If you'd rather spend the extra day in Disney, you should do that. Just make a Universal priorities list and understand that you won't get to everything.

Thanks for that.. Yes, I think that would be plan. Knowing that we won't get to everything will definitely be important for everyone to understand.
Any idea what my 3 y/o and 9 month old will be able to do?

In my experience, during off-season at Universal most rides are pretty much walk-on, with the exception of Harry Potter.

I think it would be feasible to do just about everything in a day.

There's not a lot for young kids either, so staying behind with them would make sense.

Depending on when you are going it will be tough to see everything in both parks in a day. I also think it would be a good idea to relax by the pool with the younger ones. If you are Harry Potter fans you'll probably want to spend some extra time just noticing all the detail involved in making both areas as authentic as possible. This will take some time on top of just riding the attractions.

Universal can easily be done in less than 30 seconds or so. Just walk through the turnstiles and turn around and walk back out. Done, but not experienced.
Now if you want to see what is actually there, experience what there is to do, enjoy the rides, shows, shopping, dining and entertainment offered, one day is not enough for the two Universal parks.
The idea of your DH, DS 17 and DD 15 going while you stay back and relax is a good idea. They can go at a breakneck pace and see and do a lot if the point is to rush and try to do the highlights, getting in as much as possible in one day, but no matter how light the crowd is, they won't get it all done, there is just too much to see and do.
Again, 30 seconds, one day, more than one day. Each requires a different approach and will result in vastly different experiences.

I think it depends on when you go.

I actually did one day at Universal and IOA during my November trip. Only purchased the 1 day, 2 park pass and the unlimited express pass. I got to Universal at opening, and did both parks in one day - didn't do every single thing, but I did everything I wanted to do, multiple times, since I haven't been to Universal since I was a kid. I think I got lucky though. I chose Veterans Day to do Universal/IOA. I knew MK would be crowded that day, so I wanted to stay away from the parks on a holiday, thinking Florida schools were out for the holiday.. my driver told me they weren't off that day. I didn't even need my express pass because there were no crowds at all that day. I was pretty happy that I picked a great day to go. I walked right on everything, and still used my express pass since I had it but didn't really need it at all. I had a great time. I did not think I was going to be able to do everything I wanted because I thought it would be crowded like the Disney parks.. it was the opposite. The longest wait we had was for Gringotts, and that was only 15 minutes.

That sounds like you picked an amazing day. Unfortunately, we are going during the busy season... The very beginning of the summer (end of June (probably the 24th or 25 of June at Uni) until July 4th). I definitely have to look into the price of tickets to figure out what will work best for my family! Thank you so much for the info. I appreciate it!!!!! :) Hopefully we can be as lucky as you were!!

Yeah if I went in the summer, I might have had a whole different story to tell lol. I hope you end up figuring it all out! I am like you though.. I love Disney parks so much that it took me over 20 years to get my butt back to Universal again. I never want to leave property! I had a blast though, but I was so happy to get back on property and back to my Disney resort that day. :D My parents were staying at Cabana Bay Resort that week, so it was nice to spend the day with them since they weren't doing Disney at all on their trip - now that I could never do! LOL

It definitely depends when you go and what you want to do. If you go most days during the fall, winter, or early spring you can do everything in a few hours. I was there a day in January where I was the only non employee I saw for the first half hour to an hour in IoA, it was raining so it kept the early morning crowd away. I did the harry potter Ride, Train both ways, Gringots, Transformers (i.e. Spider-Man 2, same ride), The Mummy twice, sadly no Rip Ride Rockit this time due to the rain, ET, Jurrasic Park, The Wand shop, Dueling Dragons, ate a Mythos, and that was actually taking my time compared to normal and it only took me about 3 and a half hours. In October it was busier, but I did Spider-Man, JP, Mummy, Rip Ride and Rockit, Dueling Dragons, ET, MiB, Dudley Doo Right, Gringots, Train twice, ate in Springfield and shopped in the Seuss area all in about 4 and half hours. To me it's really up to when you go and what your family wants to do, if you like shows it could take at least a day. If you just go for rides you may be able to go on everything in under 8 hours if you have never been there before. If you don't like thrill rides, probably 4 or less. I'm a Uni annual pass holder, but usually only go there to hit my favorites and try whatever is new. Nothing there is must see for me, especially since I realized Spider-Man and Transformers are essentially the same ride and all Gringots is is a 3D version of The Mummy. I enjoy them, but for me it's a get in, do what I want, get out kind of destination.

On the other hand, I've also been there during summer and waited 2+ hours for the Hulk, so...

Good to know. Isn't there a pass that you can buy that's extra money but will let you hop to the front of the line?? Like an express ticket or something?

I think you will be pleasantly surprised about Universal. There's like 6 or 7 things that my son and I enjoy between the two parks, but we love every minute we spend there.

I'm thinking maybe I just send my husband and the older 2 kids for the day there and I can relax by the pool with the little ones... Definitely a thought and it would save us some $$$$ lol
I just joined and am surely in the minority when I say I've been to Universal more than WDW. I have 3 boys and they all love it for different reasons. There are actually 2 parks Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. I could spend 2 days at just IoA, but we are Marvel and Harry Potter fans. Universal Studios is OK, but have spent less than a day there and felt it was time to move on. Hope that helps.

PFR (Pray For Rain). My longtime pen pal and her husband were visiting Universal and Islands of Adventure one day, and I was with them. It poured out, and we got to do many attractions in both parks due to most other visitors hiding their heads. Unfortunately, I do not remember what time of year it was. It sort of all blends together down here in central Florida.

They have an express pas which varies in price during the year. I've seen it range anywhere from $35-$135 dollars for two parks. Since I do quick trips there, I'll get it when I'm there on busier days to make sure I get on all my favorites.
