Universal Puts Disney's Reopening on Defensive

From some other reports I've read, that particular room in the queue never had markers. It's a room that people are being pulsed through. They hold guests in the previous portion of the queue, and then send groups in one at a time once they can go through without causing any backups. No breakdown of operations, no violation of social distancing guidelines. Just a room guests walk through once they can do so without stopping.

I could have sworn there were markers last weekend, and another user also said they were there this afternoon. But I suppose memories can be hazy.

I have had friends at the park corroborate the “no markers and told to fill space” story. Supposedly, the markers were removed the previous night, and not replaced immediately. Once the issue was seen and publicized, UO scrambled to put them back in the late morning/early afternoon.

I know that the author/publisher of that content has a less than sturdy track record, but when there is actual photographic and video proof, it is really weird when I see people call it fake or clickbait.

Universal was in a worse position than Disney, as they continued paying their employees.
And per our server at NBC Grille last week they (that restaurant anyway although she said everyone has a universal ID) paid the crew the same hours they were originally scheduled when Orlando suddenly had the curfew and had to close hours early.
Water parks should not have reopened.
Why?
Got it. So no more physical distancing...just move fast and you should be fine :rolleyes::rolleyes: They should a least tell you to hold your breath while you rush through ;)
Aren’t the masks to supposed to be so protective? From the all prevalent virus always hanging in a cloud waiting to viciously attack? :p

they had markers and we weren’t “pulsed through” last week- although the crowds were so low we walked straight from opening gates to the load platform, so possibly things changed later in day . Paused long enough to get a hand sanitizer squirt.

Wonder if crowds up will continue through this week. Was thinking about another visit before I leave the 19th. Especially if Bourne stuntacular does soft opening to public...
Judging by crowds at my resort visitors are way up this weekend! Still plenty of physically distance lounger groups by pool but more are filled and way more families. Will be interesting if the crowd goes down through the week if they were just here for weekend.

The masks help to prevent you from “spitting into the air” while you talk or cough. They help but they are far from 100% effective. If the masks worked 100% then we wouldn’t need physical distancing anywhere and we could go back to no capacity limits on anything and full crowds (even sports stadiums) as long as everyone wore the masks. In a lot of ways it would make this a lot easier if that was true.

Yes thats been explained a gajillion times- it was a joke. And the porous neck gaiters and many cloth masks don’t stop the cloud anyway. Assuming again 100% infected people always walking around

I'm still not seeing Disney looking too much on the defensive right now.

It still seems smarter to move more slowly and cautiously toward reopening. They could screw things up when they do reopen, but you would hope this is giving them more time to anticipate and plan for potential issues and to get a better sense of what is happening with the virus in Florida more generally. It certainly doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon.

I have to laugh at that article. Everyone was saying Disney was in the wrong for waiting to open. Now they look like the good guy for waiting. Sorry but Universal has looked much better so far. Disney is cutting so much stuff just to discourage people to come while Universal didn't change much other then adding in social distancing and masks.

They were talking about the financial impact of the reopening plan not how they look in the fanboy community. It’s a pretty accurate take and not much different than what a lot of people here were saying about the reason for the timing.

That's a decent write up, thanks for posting. The point about the slow ramp up of traffic to Universal from opening to today definitely has merit-- Disney needs people to show up when they open. By waiting until people are more comfortable with travel and beginning to spend on entertainment, they probably come in out of the chute in a much better place after opening.

It all well and good to say they are waiting for people to be more comfortable with traveling. The communication they are putting out says the complete opposite. They are begging people to cancel and not come to the parks. That's completely opposite of trying to make money.
