Universal Puts Disney's Reopening on Defensive

Are OKW or SSR considered contained enough to host athletes? Yes, each is DVC but how many with studio reservations would seriously complain about an upgrade to a coronado tower or deluxe hotel room? The one bedrooms and up are more tricky but they could make room somewhere, maybe some go to Riviera where's there's plenty of undeclared still-cash rooms.

I would not want to be moved from OKW to Coronado I have a 2 BR for 7/3-6 but we are not fans of Coronado, I would be ok being moved to another DVC 2 BR or Poly 2 lockoff rooms.

But I believe per DVC they are not able to relocate us to a non DVC resort.

I'm looking forward to my Poly DVC stay during 4th of July weekend. It should be calm, peaceful and uncrowded - which is why I'm keeping it. Yes, downside is no Independence Day fireworks as I had expected 6 months ago. It will just be a different Disney vacation that what I'm use to (the whole world is different anyway). Perhaps it will be similar to my stays at Disney's Vero Beach without a theme park - very relaxing and no hustle and bustle typically at WDW property.

yep same with us OKW 7/3-6 we will enjoy low numbers and the pool. I would be surprised if Disney did not do some sort of fireworks show for 7/4.

Things are just starting to come out and as the days go by Disney I am sure will alter add and or change some things for the DVC resorts that open on 6/22. They will figure out what activities they can have at each resort for guests.

Can anyone speak to the reservations for non DVC members staying at a DVC resort during the DVC only period?
So if you have a DVC room booked direct with Disney you mean? Not renting from an owner (direct or through a broker)?

You should be fine. They cannot limit DVC bookings, so there is little point in cancelling the 2-3% of rooms booked with Disney.

What if it’s a non DVC room booked at a DVC resort? Like poly or GF?

They may not want to over crowd a few resorts according to the email for DVC yesterday ALL DVC resorts will be opening on 6/22.

Non DVC resorts I agree it will make no sense in opening them all if you are under 20%-30% capacity. Then again they might open them just to keep the crowds down, maybe limit the number of buildings open at resorts.

"Today, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced additional plans including the expected reopening of Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort on June 15 and all Disney Vacation Club properties at the Walt Disney World Resort on June 22."

I would be surprised if any DVC resort was at anymore than 20% capacity from the opening until 1-2 days before the parks open, and even once the parks open I would be surprised if they resorts even reach 30-35% capacity.

I am scheduled for July 3-6 at Old Key West (DVC 2 BR) I would be ok if we were asked to relocate to another DVC resort even to Poly in 2 lock off rooms.

Owners need to use their points somehow. And plenty are happy enough with a resort-only stay. Even visiting Universal, Seaworld etc from their WDW base. Fall is already tough, and point extensions only apply to certain owners and for a limited time.

No way 70% of DVC owners cancel. 10-20% perhaps.

I don’t think they’ll be open.

The Poly, for example, is a mixed resort. DVC and non-DVC. Only the DVC “Resort” sections are opening, as far as I understand it. I imagine they’ll continue cancelling stays on a rolling basis but as quickly as possible. They could even do it in one wave now that they have an opening date.

I was hoping with the “shared” spaces, they would keep it open. When I called a CM, they have no idea.

Totally.

Honestly, If i had a reservation June 22, I would definitely keep it and finally break down and go visit Universal. Maybe even Sea World. People love their DVC resorts and most are very nice to hang at. Even SSR with several pools and close proximity to DS. And OKW has legions of devoted fans who love it precisely because of it’s laid back vibe for hanging out.

DVC members go frequently enough that they’ll roll with the punches or they’ll find a way to rebook.

DVC members can book cash too, through Member Services. Those shouldn’t get cancelled.

But that is an interesting point. OKW and SSR of course have a lot of rooms booked through Disney direct. They might cancel I guess. 🤔

I’ll call again this afternoon to find out.

And I'd expect they open the covered walkway from BLT to Contemporary for that 5th floor with the food and the elevator/escalator to the monorails. I guess they might not be running before the parks, but wouldn't be surprised if they are even just for cast members to be able to get around easily on property. Hard to have BLT open without Contempo Café or a gift shop with water, snacks, and (gasp) medicine.
If you read the packet of information you signed when you bought, it very clearly says you should have no expectation of the continued existence of the Contemporary Hotel, monorail, or the theme parks. They can easily open BLT as a stand alone

Sure, and the annual pass discounts are also not guaranteed..... unless they want to keep selling timeshares.

Well Coronado springs is the rumor for the nba.
I'm pretty sure NBA stars making $20M & up a season (not counting shoe deals) aren't exactly burning with desire to stay at Coronado Springs. Nothing wrong with CS but at $20M/Year I'm gonna rent out a whole floor at The Four Seasons.

It’s not exactly up to them this time. And Four Seasons doesn’t have enough rooms for the entire NBA let alone floors.

It looks like the NBA won’t have a decision today as originally reported. The board of governors is still meeting today but they are not expecting to vote on the final plan. Right now they are working on how and when family members will be allowed into the bubble. They aren’t going to have guys go months without seeing their families. The thought is that once the initial teams are eliminated and the number of teams reduced they would have family members arrive for the remaining teams.

I still think it’s possible they go off site. There’s no reason they have to all stay at one hotel or stay on Disney property. They will be taking buses or driving to the sports complex anyway thats just as easy from an off-site hotel. They could easily split into 2 or 3 hotels with each being locked down. I think in some capacity people are taking the bubble concept too literally. The biggest concern is keeping players isolated from the public and keep them from having to travel between cities and move from hotel to hotel. There’s nothing saying that the hotel site has to be a Disney resort. Especially now that WDW will be open.
