I’m sure you’re right about a ride’s physical build being more expensive compared to a show……but wouldn’t the show ultimately be more expensive due to specialized performers pay and opportunity costs inherent with a captive audience(I assume your typical show lasts noticeably longer than just about every ride on property………thus, for every 1 minute of showtime there is 1 less potential minute of buying Franken ice cream bars, Mario shoulder buddies and Potter capes )
In summation I bet shows(not the park wide epic closer style shows where audiences readily pop in at will and take out to buy light and glow sticks) in the big picture cost more than rides.
After a couple years sure lol, but I was just defending Universal from being called cheap for cutting something. Some people here are acting like Universal cut their entertainment entirely without replacements - still getting HTTYD Stage Show, Potter, Nighttime Spectacular... and streetmosphere because Universal still believes in that!

Is it a billion for just one land? I thought it was established long ago here that Universal’s budgets aren’t anywhere near as crazy and they’re able to do more with less? Like the initial budgets I remember for Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley combined was still less than $1 Billion.
Ignoring inflation, I still think Universal is capable of building much cheaper attractions than Disney.

After that 550 million screenfest Cosmic Rewind I’m sure you’re right.
How to spend north of 1/2 billion on a ride without one Animatronic——that should be more of an alarm than a stolen cosmic generator.

$3 to 4 billion for Epic Uni.????

Stop…….just stop that crazy talk. There is no way that article is right about that rough figure. 3 billion should have never been part of the estimated range. Even 4 billlion looks mighty off, way off. Huge scale Infrastructure, permits, hotels and with the exception of 2 rides(granted one is a big ticket) everything at Epic needs original and tailor made engineering.

Yeah, that’s laughably low.

I really hope Epic will keep the rpm’s high and not lose any momentum: if Universal slows up and settles for Moana or Minion level offerings I’ll be sorely disappointed.

I see Minions land and DreamWorks Land as a stop gap to fill their quiet years in preparation for EU. Velocicoaster and Hagrid were a tremendous success and I’d imagine they’re looking at options to do a similar 1-2 punch at USF once Epic opens.

We’re getting a new firework show and event next year… so they’re definitely not slowing down

They have already announced that for 2024 USF is getting DreamWorks Land, and new nighttime multimedia lagoon show. A new parade is also rumored. I figure they will package the new entertainment with some sort of summer festival.

The first time I heard the justification of "it's a roller coaster themed to a roller coaster in an amusement park", it was for DCA and California Screamin', with it's Six Flags queue and all. I thought it was a creative "cop-out".

Velocicoaster is how you do it.

Ya Rip Ride Rocket looks as if a space alien zapped it with his ray gun and lifted out of Magic Mountain or 6 Flags over Texas and dropped it in USO just for kicks. It was a lousy fit and It needs to go.

Although it replaced something that should have been left alone Mummy back around 2005 or so came out swinging and landed some devastating blows. But it has aged poorly since then. It needs to go, too.

They just fixed up Mummy so I don't see it going

Mummy is in great shape... has not aged poorly at all. Still as popular as ever. Not sure where you are coming from

I was basing it on when I was an AP holder from 2019 to ‘21 when I was hitting the 2 Universal parks likely 2 times per week.

I now understand it has been freshened up significantly.

My replacement stance was based on 2 things: poor operating condition and theme. I now know that operationally it’s working nicely but the effects(even considering their current solid reliability) and story have become outdated, corny and cheesy.

New stance: considering it operates well let’s keep it.

Back before the refurb, yes the ride was in bad shape, it's better now (Universal really sucks at keeping the rides maintained)
