That's not a replacement though. The new Monsters attraction is replacing a previously proposed Monsters attraction (a show.) The VR attraction will be replaced when its own plot isn't sitting empty.

Sources say they wanted the monsters land to have a show, but that they never had one planned nor written. And apparently the massive amphitheatre in the concept art was either a late or a last minute addition since the permits showed a building with a far smaller footprint before it was cancelled. So yes, the ride took the shows place as the Monsters land second attraction.

Before the VR Broomstick was cancelled, the park was set to debut with 11 rides. After the the spinning coaster was added to the line-up, it was brought back to 11 rides on opening day. Like i clarifed, It didn't replace it in the literal sense, it just took it's place as the 11th ride.

Epic Universe Speculation Map updated for 2022. Labels for all currently rumored rides and dining locations have been added, but nothing has been confirmed by the company.

This new Universal Orlando theme park is expected to open Summer 2025

It's interesting to see the excavator at center working at side of dirt staged near Ministry of Magic in Epic Universe. The work location seems odd. Bulldozer has easier access to dirt elsewhere.

Can you imagine the amount of planning that had to be done to get all these pieces moving together? Like building a city from scratch along with the rides and attractions. Years and years of work

So more accurately, it will take a clone attraction to be finished building the same amount of time it will take to build a whole brand new campus complete a theme park, two hotels and connecting road.

Being a clone does not mean that much and TRON was announced before it was even designed. Epic Universe was announced after years of design and site preparation work. A park is also not all designed by the same people. Things are done in parallel by different teams.

How can you say it was announced before it was designed when it's a clone of an attraction that already existed in another park? Sure, there are probably differences in the minutiae of the structure's design & construction, but practically all of the design work on the attraction itself would have already been completed & implemented elsewhere prior to the announcement of Magic Kingdom's version.

Frankly, if they hadn't already completed the design phase prior to the attraction's announcement, even if we're just talking about the structure's differing technical details and not what guests will see while riding, that's pretty irresponsible on Disney's part, especially after the backlash they had already received for taking so long with Pandora. They don't have to copy Universal's "that obvious roller coaster is a churro stand" approach, but utilizing the polar opposite strategy is a recipe for discontent (and even then, it still wouldn't explain how long it's taken.)
