Uber pick-up from resort

I agree lol. But really its just a taxi and i have found uber drivers to be nicer.

Possibly, but it is not a taxi. There is no requirement to make sure the vehicle is properly maintained, there is no vetting of drivers, or structure to the rates. I am not going to risk the possibly of what can go wrong with this model of doing business.

It will be nice when my kids aren't in car seats and I can use Uber (I know you can request car seats but the upcharge is crazy).
Not to turn this thread into a car seat discussion but we recently picked up a thing called mifold... it's a fold up "booster" seat. We can throw it in a backpack and use it in taxis on the go... I think it's worth a look depending on what your travel needs are.

The Ubers I've taken in WDW are nicer, cleaner and cheaper than any taxi I've ever taken here in Boston... (Same goes for most Ubers here in Boston, too)

In fact some of the Ubers I've taken in WDW were guys who drive luxury towncars and we're picking up fares while they were between bookings.

So are you suggesting because of your good experiences with ride sharing, there is absolutely no downside?

To speak of anything in absolutes is a bit absurd. Still, my experience with Uber is similar to @Rob562 , and as to why I would digitally hitchhike in when at WDW is typically because resort to resort transport, though free, is NOT ideal. Further when adding a wheelchair to the mix, the task becomes even harder. A late evening dinner at Jiko with a return to WL on Uber takes no time. Yes, there are other ways, and a taxi is one of them, but the experience is never enjoyable.

We were there during Matthew in October and transportation after they started back up was insane. Uber was nice, easy, and quick. A welcome break from the zoo that was the buses.

I have seen those and will probably get them in the future. I still have a baby so he is way too young for a booster yet.

I have used Uber both in WDW as well as very often at home when I'm out and about for work. In general, I get FAR better service in an Uber than I do in a cab. Cleanliness is one of the factors that goes into their rating. If they have a dirty car, they will get dinged for it.

Uber drivers have a lot more incentive to make you happy. If they get a few complaints from riders who had bad experiences, then they're done driving for Uber. They get cut off. That's often not the case for normal cab drivers.

Ubers are more convenient, provide better overall service and are a fraction of the cost of a normal cab ride. Personally it baffles me why anyone bothers with normal cabby anymore.

It is naive to have that much trust in Uber, especially on vacation where people typically have their guard down and are little more vulnerable. If I needed unrestricted travel, I would rent a car, the risk of something bad happening is just not worth it to me.

How are you more at risk in Uber than a taxi?
Why is either one considered a risk? Drivers are at a much higher risk than passengers will ever be.

This isn't true.

Agree. I save a lot of money now with Uber instead of a taxi!

The paranoia is strong in this one... How much vetting do you think those Mears employees handling your luggage and transportation go through?

Its as if you thought Taxi drivers were somehow scrutinized by the NSA and perfectly safe... but uber? OH NO..

Agree.

Taxi's are insured. If you are ever in an accident, you might find out the drivers insurance doesn't cover it because they were driving-for-hire, and didn't update their insurance policy, if the insurance is current at all. Or, how good the vetting process was for hiring drivers if something happens.

Are you a taxi driver who hates Uber, and trying to hurt their business? ;) what you are saying is false.

Seriously though, I don't want people to read this and be afraid..

It's a great option.. the drivers are insured, and they have background checks, and their vehicles have to meet certain requirements... and importantly- they are reviewed by passengers. There is nothing "unsafe" about Uber, or Lyft.

Hey Flynnibus where have you been? Its been a while since you criticized me.

My point is bad things happen, bad things happen on vacation. For transportation at Disney World, I would feel safer better protecting myself, and trying the limit the situations where things could be bad, by renting a car, if I felt Disney transport was not good enough. Getting into a vehicle with possibly an uninsured, unlicensed, or criminal driver isn't worth it. If you think Uber's hiring process or the company protects you against that, is ignorant.

Uber, Lyft, and Taxis are for people when don't want to drive. :)

But, someone gave you misinformation about their hiring process and requirements.

No I am aware they have process initially in place for insurance, and vehicle requirements. However, the insurance may not cover Driving-For-Hire if you are injured. The license may have been revoked, and taking a picture of your vehicle doesn't show the mechanical condition. If I am so wrong, there wouldn't be so many Uber horror stories out there. Be alert, Just sayin.

If you were correct then there wouldn't be so many satisfied Uber customers all over the country.
I'm pretty certain that if something happens with your license then you can not be a driver at that point.

Anyway... I can appreciate if you choose to not use a service like Uber or Lyft, but "we" have to be careful about things we say, someone from a small town could read this and be afraid.

Bad things happen everywhere. Uber is not some new venue for criminals to rob you.. no more than every other business you interact with on vacation. You act like Disney is some bubble of protection - they are not immune either, and when you hire 30,000+ people.. your standards are going to slide a bit as well.

Insurance FUD... Uber drivers are covered by Uber's insurance when on a call. https://www.uber.com/drive/insurance/

Certainly the idea of independent contractors is not to everyone's cup of tea... but the FUD about it is just that.. FUD.

My biggest issue with uber on property is knowing where the driver can pick you up when at the parks.. since access is so controlled.

And ironically the worst taxi experiences I've had... have been taxi's I've picked up at the parks. Guy not knowing where to make a drop off at Disney Springs... his credit card machine being 'broken'.. etc.

I used to really, really like Uber. In the past I've recommended them to friends, on other forums, and I used them in every city I flew into (and I fly into a lot). But last year I lost all respect for them as a corporation when I witnessed first hand the dirty tactics they would resort to while fighting our city government over fingerprint background checks. They have no corporate values other than to win at any cost and they have no respect for their drivers or customers. I deleted their app and my account from my phone.

Has Uber's Day Of Reckoning Arrived?
