Typhoon Lagoon closed due to capacity today

Those of you who know - during the summer, what are closures like? How often, around what time, do they reopen later in the day, etc? Thanks.

I for one am surprised and yet not so surprised. That's the true sign Spring Breakers are FINALLY here. (By the way, local county schools are officially off on their spring break starting last Friday I believe.) During the summer, it varies, but on the regular busy days (which is pretty much most of the summer, but gets stronger towards July 4th for obvious reasons), we usually close up around 11 or 12, 10:30 if we're UBER busy. If you're staying at one the resorts, best bets are to always check how it is over at Blizzard. Blizzard has always closed to capacity before we do. If Blizzard goes down fast, then we will probably have the same fate. Your best bet to secure a position in TL early for the whole day is to go the day that there is a morning (or evening if you prefer that) EMH.

For reopening, it depends, but it follows the same schedule as the regular parks, in the early afternoon, between 1-3. Be wary however; this doesn't the lines have died down significantly, it just means that guests can be allowed into the park again. Believe me, I've had lines out the door at the store for locker and towel rentals and it started from 11:30 until 3. Which, brings me to the last issue: the lockers themselves. Be aware that on busy days, lockers are going to go FAST. During the summer, we usually run out of them right before park closes for capacity and/or around 11-12. Always have a contingency plan for that, as people sometimes actually get angry with us because of that, to either bring it along with you or leave it in a sandy area near where you're going to be, or leave the valuables in a small locker and carry the rest. All up to you and timing in the end!

Hope that helps!!

Is it just me, or are wave pools highly over rated? I might have this opinion because I worked at a major water park with one for 2 years. Its just a bunch of people getting tossed around. Then again...the one at TL is huge.

Both Blizzard and Typhoon closed today!

Blizzard had a problem with something this morning which was possibly caused by last nights storm so they they could not open this morning. They had everything corrected by mid afternoon so opened at 2PM.

That could explain Typhoon's capacity for the day.

From what I hear Spring break has not brought the crowds from colleges as much this year. Lots of families here though.
Here on the Space Coast spring break starts Monday.

Two words: Lazy river.

That, and playing in the wave pool!

"Look at all the lazy people laying in the lazy river'!! ( we were watching a dvd of resort tv that we taped last sept and now my 4 year old informed me that we need to find stacy and get our picture with her and her autograph)
Sorry I could'nt resist!
Thats all we usually do when we go....either to typhoon or blizzard beach..I'm not to fond of water parks..I agree walking around in a wet bathing suit does nothing for me...Although people watching....is very interesting at water parks..very interesting........I'll leave it at that!

Yep. Good thing River Country is rotting away and all the plans for a new water park at WDW were tabled because it means Aquatica will be full the rest of the year.

You really think so? Despite the press, locals here in Tampa seem to dislike it and the word of mouth has spread pretty quick. I think the general lack of ingenuity in that park is what's saving Disney from really having to address.

Aquatica isn't bad, it's nothing to plan a vacation around either. It's a young park, give it time and things will develop. It's great for families with tween agers because it's mostly multi person slides.

I was really excited when I heard it was being built and I read about some of the concepts. Now it's up and running I'm a little disapointed. Was planning to go there on my next trip but I'm not sure it's worth it now. The slides look alright and the themeing is OK but nothing really special like I hoped. Still, I'd rather go there than Wet n Wild.

I'll let you know exactly what I think after I check it out this month.

But everything I've heard says most people like it ... a lot.

It certainly doesn't raise the water park concept, but neither really did TL and BB, and I greatly enjoy them. They have nice landscaping (well, at least TL does) and fun slides and tube rides and lazy rivers etc ... but they in no way take things to another level like Disney's theme parks do.

River Country really was unique precisely because it wasn't all climbing endlessly to take a choice of multiple slides back to a chlorinated splashdown.

I had a PAP for WDW for years so I could get into the water parks, but after paying for the option for two years without going, I went back to a regular AP.

I guess there just wasn't enough to keep me going, especially with the fact that every resort in Orlando (Disney or non) now has great pool areas.

Now, if RC still were open, I'd still have a PAP.

We(myself, GF and her 6 yr old daughter and 11 yr old son) went to Aquatica last monday and it was packed. I am pretty sure it reached capacity. I thought it was great. Is it as heavily themed as TL or BB, no but it has more of a theme than most waterparks. I think the big complaint among locals is that the animal exhibits weren't as impressive as they made them sound and does not look as lush as the concept art and the model they built. The other complaint is the whoever designed the lazy river/slide area was an idiot. You have to cut across the lazy river, get a tube from it to get to the 2 slides on an island in the river. Yes, it is cool that the slides end in the river but it just creates a giant bottleneck on top of the fact that the lazy river is a joke. It is way to short and the views into the dolphin tank and fish tank are def not as impressive as they were made out to be.

However, the water play structure and the fast river I thought were the best part of the parks. Why more parks have not put in one of these rapids river is beyond me. You put on a life vest and float down the river at a high speed with sections that have rapids and various other water effects.
The water play structure was a blast. I can remember when water parks only had a section for little kids to play in now you have one that everyone can play in. We had a blast with that. It was awesome and I felt like a kid again.

Also, one thing they def have that is better than any waterpark I have ever been to is the food. We did the Banana Beach Cookout which is an all you can eat buffet that you can either pay for one time or all day. We did the one time thing and the food was excellent. Fresh fruit, bbq chicken, burgers(including veggie), all kinds of salads and some of the best chocolate pudding I have ever had at a park. And it was reasonably priced. esp since it included your drinks.

I think Busch has a hit on there hands but it def. needs some tweaks(a few more animal exhibits to play up the selling point of the park) and does need another slide tower or a real lazy river to help with capacity.

It's been HOT lately. Seriously, near record heat. (I should know. My a/c unit was out for two days and one night which was pure agony until the apartment complex finally got around to getting a replacement.)

So it's no surprise to hear they're reaching capacity. It's been around 85F (30C) solid every day for about two weeks now.

No kidding! I already have the AC pumping. They are saying the heat of April is going to be more like what we see in July! :hammer:
