Two weeks to trip and nervous

My husband and I are now two weeks out to take our precious 2 1/2 year old daughter to Disney for a week. I am very nervous now with the tragedy happening in Boston and now with reading here about any kind of tour groups potentially obnoxious behavior sets my teeth on edge. :(

What do you think I can do to get ready and put the magic back in a long awaited trip? This is the first time she's ever been in a crowded situation and she's so young I just want things to be the best that they can be for her.

Thanks for your helpful input.

I will be looking out for you too, then, for you to have an excellent trip..I have never been this anxious before.

Awww....no....actually, I live in a neighborhood that is old and "going downhill". We are moving soon, leaving behind a neighbor who is 93. But, we are coming to Disney for our 7th trip in August and cannot WAIT! It really IS a home away from home. There is no line jumping. There are no really bad teens or young smokers. Lol. It really is about the ONLY place I feel like my kids won't be bothered. That's what I love about it. There's no loud swearing or any bad element of anything. Now, sometimes there are little issues or crowding but just get a stroller and you are in business! But, everyone....and I mean everyone....is happy there. It's the happiest place on EARTH! :) I think the only time we aren't happy is when we have to go back to our rooms. HAVE FUN. You will all love it!

You are probably safer there than where you live. I agree with someone above who said you she be more afraid of a tired toddler or one who has eaten too much. ;)

When I lived in DC, I was amazed at the people that were terrified of threats, etc., yet drove on the Beltway everyday. So much more danger there.

If it is any help to you, I was in the parks literally the day after it happened. I always feel safe at Disney and this day was no exception. I did hear about one or two extra things that Disney did to insure guest and cast member safety, but wont share them here for obvious reasons. Also I am sure what I heard was only a very tiny part of the stepped up security that was in place. Please dont worry about it, go and enjoy yourself and make your baby's first trip magical!!! Oh honey don't stress over things you have no control over! Try not to over plan and just stick to what you've learned on the boards that will help you and go with the flow.. Otherwise your trip won't be a vacation! I know, been there done that! Crowds shouldn't be bad for time if year your going, weather will be nice, not too hot, uoul have a fabulous time!

We will be there in 2 weeks as well, an we always go the beginning of May for the low crowds! Last year, we never waited more than a half hour for rides, and most were walk ons! You picked a good time to go. We have a 4 and a 2 year old so he low crowds and lines help with my impatient children!!! U guys should be fine! Dont let Boston get you down! It has nothing to do with your Disney trip. Disney is tere to forget about te real world for awhile! Enjoy!

luv's Toddler Tips:

1. Don't make the child eat if they are hot and worked up. Kids who never barf frequently do so at WDW after mom makes them eat.

2. If the child is exhausted, let them sleep. In a bed.

3. If the child is afraid of the characters, let it go. Don't terrify you toddler because you dreamed of getting a picture of them with your favorite character, lol.

So, there's that.

Worrying helps nothing. It won't make you have a better trip. It will only cause you grief. So, just don't. Que sera, sera. :)
Great tips @luv :)
I would add... its ok if you do not ride everything ... see everything... ext especially with a young one... You can always see it on a future trip :)

I was very excited and in the Disney bubble (safe at 2nd home feeling) until today. Now I have an image of a group of 50 sweaty, deodorant-free people smoking outside of the smoking area and then jumping in line in front of me while we have waited 20 minutes to ride Dumbo. Oh my....

Oh my lawd, that is funny. Don't ever go to Paris!

It can be difficult in these times, but you can't live in fear or you would never leave your house. No place is 100% safe. There has always been a risk in anything worth doing and always will be. I think you are going to have a wonderful time.

Step onto Main Street.... take a deep breath.... take in your first view of the Castle, and let go of all your concerns. Disney's got your back.
And if you do run into any obnoxious tour groups...turn around and go in the opposite direction.... always works for me. Enjoy your trip and come back with some fantastic memories.

First take a deep breath and exhale relaxing your whole body. With your eyes closed and in a tranquil state say 3 times "We're going to WDW and we're gonna have a great time".

Don't stress and have a wonderful vacation.

I've been to Disney several dozen times and have come across numerous tour groups and I have never found any group to be really annoying. Some like the Brazilians like to sing a lot so they may or may not bother you in a line. Remember that there are certain things you can't control. Who else is there that day is one of those. Go and worry about having fun with your family. That should be your priority.
