I can understand everybody being crazed, but they did not just leave the child to go ride Pirates...believe it or not, this happens quite often...still sad, still dangerous and thank God it had a happy ending...

Two parents were arrested on child abuse counts after authorities found their child in a hot stroller outside Walt Disney World's Pirates of the Caribbean ride, according to an Orange County sheriff's report released Monday.
A Magic Kingdom patron alerted park management at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday after spotting an unattended 3-year-old girl in a stroller parked in the sun
The girl was hot, turning red, covered in sweat and apparently “lifeless,” the report states. A paramedic touched and shook her, but she failed to respond. Saturday's highs were in the low 90s with no rain, and deputies estimate the child was in the sun for between 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Paramedics revived the girl by taking her indoors and giving her water. Deputies said the heat may have become deadly.
“[A paramedic] advised that if medical intervention had not been administered the female child was nearing signs of heat exhaustion with unknown results up to and including death,” the report states.

Parents Juan Carlos and Danette Rodriguez, 35 and 32, approached park workers seeking the girl about 50 minutes later. The couple said the girl was asleep inside a double stroller and got lost in the shuffle as their group of two adults and four children approached the ride, they told investigators.
When they entered the attraction, Juan Carlos thought Danette had their daughter, while Danette thought Juan Carlos had her. Shortly after, Juan Carlos went back outside to move the stroller to a designated area, but failed to see the little girl, he told deputies.
The parents only realized their daughter was missing when they exited the ride.
Juan Carlos and Danette were arrested on one count each of child abuse.
They were released from Orange County Jail Sunday on $2,500 bail each.
Calls to the parents' house were not returned.
The children were turned over to relatives members while the Department of Children and Families investigates.

I still don't see how someone could leave their little child like that. That's terrible! I also don't see how the father moved the stroller without seeing his daughter.

I'm glad the girl is ok.

how the h e double hockey stick can you leave your child in a stroller? Also how could a cm or a guest not notice it either?

Exactly. Isn't there usually a CM working outside of the attraction putting the strollers in rows? :veryconfu

I feel sorry for the parents. What they did was not out of malice, but out of carelessness. It's not as though one of them said, "Let's just leave the kid here, she'll be fine." It was an accident, and one they will regret for a long time coming. They brought it on themselves and deserve to be punished, but I have a difficult time mustering a lot of hate for them.

From our local news last year: A woman purposely locked her kid in the car/carseat while she went for a three hour casino boat trip. That's where I have no sympathy.

I would love to hear from a CM at the end of Pirates. Did the parents freak when they "realized she was missing" or did they calmly walk through the gift shop because they knew exactly where she was?

Have you seen some of those double strollers? Some have sun shades and if it was down and the child was small and scooted down sleeping you can miss them unless you are really looking. Then if any packages were left behind....

I'm not making excuses for them, but yeah, I can see it happening. I've walked passed strollers and not noticed a kid in one before, if you aren't looking closely you can walk right on by.

We don't know that it was carelessness. It may have been, but it also may have been that they didn't want to wake her and figured she would be ok.

Speculating- The little girl had a "Disney afternoon kiddie melt-down" (we've all seen it) - The finally get her to calm down and take a nap - They want to ride Pirates, but don't want to deal with a cranky 3 yr old - She'll be fine here while we ride...

Ridiculous? Maybe, but so is not making sure your little princess is with you.

How many kids do you have to have to forget one??? There are 6 in my family and nothing like this has ever happened, not even the tinyest bit. Those parents should have their children taken away.

Wow! At first I was shocked by this story...then sadly, I was not.

We were at Epcot in January and witnessed a similar incident. I approached a cast member to ask a question and quickly realized he was part of the security team surrounding two children who had been left while the parents went on Test Track. Apparently they thought it was appropriate to leave a 3 year old in charge of an infant (not sure of the age but not yet able to walk...he was sleeping in his carriage). I couldn't help but stand at a distance and watch it all unfold. I just had to see who these parents were that could leave two little babies all alone in such a manner.

As the crowd of Disney officials intensified, it took a good 35 minutes for the family to come out (not sure how much time had passed before we came upon the situation, but long enough for Disney higher-ups to already be on scene).

I was equally shocked to see the parents reaction when they came out with two older boys (around 8-10). The Disney Cast Member spoke to the mother, who didn't seem to understand what all the fuss was about. The father didn't even enter the conversation, instead, he began showing the 3 year old the souveniers he just bought. I could not believe my eyes.

In this case, language may have been a barrier in the CM trying to explain the seriousness of the situation. However, there is no language barrier that can excuse the stupidity of the act in the first place.

I will never understand some people. I am glad the little girl in this case is safe and sound. Not sure what, if anything, happened to the other parents. It is just sad. In the time it took them to get off the ride, someone could easily have snatched the kids and been out of the park. :brick:

You have factor in cultural differences. Where we do not leave our small children alone ( or in the care of other small children) there are some cultures who do this... again, not what we do, but if that is how they live in their country then they would see nothing wrong in doing it here.

Hmm.. it scares me to think if some people did this back when children were being kidnapped at WDW back in the early 90s(as I have heard).:lookaroun

Yeah that was all urban legends.
No it wasn't. When people came to the parks with children at certain point they were given wristbands with a the same number on them per family. So if you walked out of the park with a different number than the child with you, you weren't leaving.
