Doing my pre-pre-pre-pre trip planning :D Want to do a couple new things that we've never done before. The two things being #1 make AK a full day park. #2 eat a TS at AK.

I think Tusker house would work best for my families needs being that it's a character buffet. I'm just not sure if we should do it as a Breakfast or a Lunch!

Thanks for your opinions!

I am not much for sit down breakfasts at WDW save for Kona as most of the food tends to be the same no matter where you go. You have your basic eggs, bacon ,sausage, fruit, etc with maybe one or two semi-unique things and that is it.

The food tends to have much more character during lunch and dinner.

I have also found that a sit down lunch makes for a great mid-day break.

I heard good things about breakfast, but not being breakfasty-people, we opted for lunch. I was impressed! The fare was obviously more unique than most Disney buffets due to the theme, and the characters were so adorable in their safari outfits. I'd say it's more a decision based on your other ADRs and whether you need more breakfasts or lunches in your schedule.

I know it sounds silly but the only reason i was being swayed towards breakfast was because Flame tree. haha

We would propably only spend one full day at AK, and therefore would miss out on Flame Tree BBQ - which has been a staple in our half day adventures there. ahhh decisions decisions...

That's not silly - Flame Tree is delicious. :D I thought you were possibly hinging other breakfast/lunch ADR decisions based on this. But breakfast + characters + a lunch you want = a win.

We like breakfast at 8am on a NON extra magic hour morning and then go right over to the safari at 9am when the park opens. Timing work great!!!!

Our last visit we did Chef Mickey's & Garden Grill - we were not overly impressed with CM's breakfast food or character interactions so we have no problem skipping that one. - Would you say Tusker house is better in both these departments than CM? While we LOVED everything about GG, I heard that it's not rotating anymore and that's a bummer - will probably skip that one as well.

We are not super breakfast-ty people either and the breakfast buffets are OK in my opinion. I guess my question moreso is "Is the tusker house lunch worth missing Flame Tree BBQ for?"

I'm not a Chef Mickey's fan either. Garden Grill I haven't been to in a long time since the menu overhaul, but am going next month (I thought it was rotating again - ahh you're scaring me!).

I really did enjoy TH lunch. It's definitely not typical WDW fare with only things like prime rib, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, pasta salads, etc. I would go if you're looking for a new experience. We rarely eat TS at AK too since we usually are only there around lunch and we save TS for places like MK/EPCOT, but it's good to try new things once in a while. So yes, in the overall scheme of things, TH lunch > Flame Tree for a day at AK if you've never done one and always done the other!

Here is a pic of some of my choices from last year:

Breakfast before the park opens. Then you can do QS for lunch and maximize your park time!
Breakfast had quite a few non-traditional breakfast items there. Honestly, we liked our meal there but can't say we loved it. The character interaction was nice for the kids. And being the first to Kilamanjaro and Everest was great.

Try the ice cream sandwich on fresh chocolate chip cookies at Dino-Bites while you're making a day of it there!

We always do a 10:30ish breakfast and get the best of both worlds. By my second or third trip up to the buffet the selections are starting to change and get more exotic.

I'm a single traveler. I found I actually enjoyed the SW character breakfast at Sci Fi Dine In at HS on a SW weekend. So thought I would try out the Tusker House Donald Breakfast in October.

And, yes, reserving Flame Tree for lunch.

We have 2 reservations there 8:30 and 10:30 and are torn between doing most of the eating before park opens or do a little touring and then do "brunch."

We usually walk on KS at park opening and would get a fast pass for after brunch. Tusker and KS are both in the Harambe area so it's convenient. The paper FP is gone so may look a little different next trip.
