Turnstile/Entrance Construction at all 4 parks

Personally I hope they never install metal detectors. I think the job the folks at Disney security have been doing is absolutely outstanding in the wake of 9/11 and probably would guess that the construction is part of an update of security systems instead of the haphazard and temporary things that they have done in the past like strings guiding crowds in front of magic kingdom and guards trying to check the bags of the thousands who enter every day. hopefully they streamline the procedures and still manage to keep the magic and provide a safe experience for all in the parks, cast members, guests and all those furry creatures too, lol.

please dont install medal detectors... (those would be for "Local" parks like paramount's and as i ahte to say.. Anheuser Busch's parks....)
Paramount has installed metal detectors?

Last time I was at Carowinds in July '03 they didn't have any....I would be surprised if they did now. I would think that Six Flags might have 'em though.

Yep... sticking a stick in a purse while taking a quick peek inside increases security levels SO much.

The construction is most likely to just add turnstiles so there are more ways to get in, and those lower the length of individual lines.

Two things (maybe three) I would love to see:

More Turnstiles open at any given moment SO I dont have to spend as much time watching people trying to figure out how to insert their ticket and scan their fingers. Maybe someting similar to the self checkout lane at the Stores. In other words, one line for people who get it and don't need a CM to help and one for those who don't.

The elmination of the finger scanners. Isn't their something else to use?

Electronic Ticketing - With the new magic your way program buying a ticket should be pretty straight forward.

And if you try to buy an adult a childs ticket, you should be taken to the Veranda on the Mainstreet Train Station over looking the turnstiles and publicly accused of your crime . You will then have the opportunity to state your defense in preparation for the voting by honest guests to see if you get to stay or go for the day. And dont even get me started on folks who put too many people in a 4 person room. :o

Actually the machines on the turnstiles measure the bone length in your fingers. They do not, contrary to popular opinion, scan your fingerprints.

Ok seriously let's just stop the metal detector debate. In my previous post I confirmed that new turnstiles were being added. The scanner take a picture of you fingers, NOT your finger print.

It doesnt really matter how the scanner or Biometric device works. :brick: The one thing I know for sure is it slows people down because they dont line up their fingers just so and a lot fo cm's at the turnstiles appear to hit the over ride button anyway just to get things moving again. :)

handstamps are slower and more labor intensive....as is a CM checking a photo ID.

This is used so you can't just give your id (or AP card I assume) to juat any old guest who wants to get into the parks for free everyday. Finger size is a somewhat unique way to identify someone, yet not evasive like a finger print would be.

your right. once it took me 30 min. to get my hand stamped. Could not belive it when i reached the tired castmember he had run out of ink to stamp with.

The whole hand stamp thing cracks me up. I didn't once see them check handstamps on my last 2 trips. I don't know if this is due to a lack of staffing at the turnstiles or just a way to speed up entry into the parks. The turnstile lets you still get into the park, it is not like the cm has to verify the handstamp to overide the turnstile.

The reason they are getting more turnstyles is because with the new tickets system every adult and junior will have to use the biometric system, an estimated 75 percent. This is to stop the stands on 192.

I hope they are not removing the flower bed in front of MK to put turnstiles in. The wall is around the flower bed...

No, they only do that to put in such things as Leave a Legacy...Sorry, I could not resist. :fork: :)

Buses and Fastpasses are pretty straight foward. Not hard to tell where buses are going or when to return with a fastpass. Yet there are plenty of people that can't figure them out.

Buying a ticket with electronic ticketing should be easier, but I feel it's going to make it much worse for cast members at guest relations and in the resorts, especially at the beginning. So many people aren't going to be getting what they want, either it be the hopping or no expiration.

The same thing for the biometrics on all tickets. Can't wait to see the delays at the turnstiles after this goes into effect. There are enough problems now, just wait until even more people are using the scanners.

It dosen't really matter if they use biometrics or something else... the fact of the matter is anything they implement that strengthens the identity of the individual coming in AND is cost effective...

...will undoubtedly slow down almost half of the guests. Call it a lack of being "technologically advanced". :p
Sounds like a great time to start the whole retinal scanners scare!

The only park that I have seen the potential wasted is at Epcot... the last time I saw any of the EAST entrance being used was... well... I can't remember! That's the only park I have issues w/. MK just needs the 'stiles staffed. MGM and AK were built w/ overflow...now whether they ever use them/took them out is another story.

Yes- Epcot needs it.

That is going to be a pain for a lot of guests who aren't APers... however, I think it's a good idea because of the guys selling them out on 192.
