Any time you take any number with two digits or more mix up the numbers and subtract the smalled result from the largest result the sum of the whole numbers will be divisible by 9.
For example lets use the number 1957. We will mix it up to be 9571.

9571-1957=7614

7+6-1-4=18

Now we will use 7591

7591-1957=5634

5+6+3+4=18

18 is equally divisible by 9. Since we know that adding up all 4 whole numbers will give us a number equally divisible by nine and the missing number is not 0 (this is why you can not circle 0) if we are given all but one of the 4 numbers we can find out the missing number with simple algebra.
