Was this for the Extended Evening Hours 6pm Virtual Queue? If so, you wouldn't need to scan into Magic Kingdom specifically for this Virtual Queue if you were already going to be at another park (in your case today, EPCOT).

Is EEH considered regular park hours? I read in the virtual queue description that says "Each Guest can request to enter the virtual queue no more than once per day during regular park hours." Does this mean I could get a 7am queue and a 6pm EEH queue? Don't want to be greedy but it's my last trip for at least two years so want to make the most of it.-Thanks

Yes, EEH is considered outside of normal park hours. You are able to join either the 7am/1pm PLUS the 6pm queue.

we were in boarding group 52 and arrived at the tron queue at 12:38. The queue was pretty long, and we did not leave tron until 1:29. it seems pretty clear that they are using tron to assist in crowd control during the day.
