Wife and I are annual passholders, had a park reservation for Epcot today and was just able to join the virtual queue for Tron from our resort without scanning in to MK. We are staying at the Grand Floridian so I am not sure if the location to MK has anything to do with it but I doubt it.

I can't find what group they are currently calling though

Was this for the Extended Evening Hours 6pm Virtual Queue? If so, you wouldn't need to scan into Magic Kingdom specifically for this Virtual Queue if you were already going to be at another park (in your case today, EPCOT).

Ah, you must be EEH. They don't start calling BG's until after 10pm, so you should be good for fireworks!
