News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

The initial launch is an electrically driven mechanical catapult winch launch. Think of an aircraft carrier steam launch catapult without the steam.

The second lift is a traditional chain lift.
And it is very effective! My favorite Space Mountain (mostly due to the inversions).

But I have wondered why they haven't switched over to a LIM system, given the wear and tear on all the moving parts of the mechanical catapult system.

I would guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. They had the chance in 2005 when they extended the launch for Mission Two but stayed with the coil of string.

DL Paris - Space Mountain is way better (electric launch), as was Pirates. Indy coaster was a lot of fun too.

Indy coaster gets a lot of online hate, but I enjoyed it. I was not a fan of DL Paris' Space Mountain, though. It's the only Disney coaster that made me hurt.

I actually hated DLP’s Space when i first rode it because it was horrendously rough! But after they “updated” it to the star wars version and changed the restraints to give your head more space to move without banging against the restraint, it was a much more comfortable experience. The Indy coaster was also rough and I didn’t enjoy it. I think it’s the same as the raging spirits in TDS, but that one was way more smooth and enjoyable.

Ah, good to hear. We rode it 4 years ago, so perhaps its better.

Has anyone rode the very front or very back of Shanghai's Tron?

I only rode in the middle, and I found it surprisingly tame. Perhaps the front's view or the back's greater forces improve the experience substantially?

Did you find that that made the experience substantially more impressive than in other rows?
I did! The launch in the first row feels pretty epic. The view under the canopy is really amazing, especially at night. One thing to note as well is, when riding under the canopy, you are really, really high up! So don’t look down if you’re afraid of heights.

Space Mountain Paris got new trains (not just restraints) which vastly improved the ride experience. Now to bring back the missions.
