News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

Having just gotten back from Shanghai Disneyland I would agree...Tron is pretty...and it is fast....but it is not as amazing or unique as the Shanghai Pirates or HKDL's Mystic Manor... It's a fun ride....absolutely... But the others are just richer experiences...
Heck, Mister Penguin suggested replacing WDW’s Pirates with Shanghai’s, and if I was certain DLs version would remain unchanged, I’d take that deal - though of course I’d prefer they create a new plot for the Shanghai ride tech and put it somewhere else. But none of that will happen.

My proposal--build Shanghai pirates at DHS and remove all of the movie elements to restore the MK ride to its classic self. The two rides could coexist in separate parks.

Hey, I'd take Shanghai Pirates and Mystic Manor at WDW too. I was hoping that land (former DHS entrance south of SW:GE was going to be used for a new land in the future but it's been turned into parking. :(

PS-if DL is getting MMRR, then I suggest we get Cars Land at DHS. I know, I know, don't hate on me just wishful thinking after seeing Cars Land in person a couple of years ago.

Well, I can happily assure you that you are incorrect. I would welcome MM and Shanghai Pirates with open arms. I’m not sure why you’d lump those masterpieces of dark-ride art in with Tron, a very short coaster-in-the-dark-with-blinky-lights that offers little of interest beyond what can be found in Space Mountain, RnRC, GotG, and TT. I am much more excited for RotR, Falcon, MMRR, and Rat then for Tron.

Pretty dog. Newfie?
Yes, Newfie. My family currently owns two.

I will say that I am disappointed that Tron is short but Magic Kingdom needs a genuine thrill ride and Tomorrowland needs a make over and Tron is a good fit.

I know it's super irrational to be salty that Disneyland is getting a new ride but, man, it would be sweet if Magic Kingdom had some more new builds to Lord over Disneyland with. The comparison between them losing nothing and us losing classics is so frustrating though.

Exactly!

Some merit doesn’t mean this project is definitely happening but it sounds like if it does, Tron will definitely be replacing some existing rides. Atleast wdw’s version will be using empty land.

Wouldn't they kind of have to dump the subs and autopia? And maybe the Launch Bay/Tomorrowland Expo/Former Carousel Theater?

It's also sad they do Project Stardust and then decide against spending the money to move the Orbitor back up on the platform (though I imagine the entire platform would need to be rebuilt at this point? It's been 20 years ...) ... Also sounds like the cheapened out on Paris's version of Marvel Land by just using the campus idea they had for DCA ...

What are the chances that after the 50th, space mountain leaves for good and TRON is really being built as it’s replaxement?

Think about that... you don’t need TRON and space mountain right next to each other.... and space mountain in Florida is well past ready for a complete rebuild.

It is not just a vague term classic

I believe it is more frustrating because it is more than just us losing rides to make new things. Many Disney Parks are building the same things in spots where the placement does not matter so much anymore. Parks and areas are losing their identiy. Sure clones in the past happened in multiple parks but they typically fit the theme. It does not seem to be as much of a requirement anymore. A little more shoehorning is going on.

There’s a certain irony about being upset your clone isn’t exclusive.

Now that the seal has been broken on Tron I don’t particularly mind its reuse. A coaster is a coaster.

Mystic Manor, Shanghai Pirates and the like are park defining. They are worth traveling for.

WDW would get more ‘exclusives’ if they actually stopped taking everyone else’s first. I realize MMRR was the sole exception, but Mickey unfortunately we knew would be cloned from the get go.

I’m hopeful for something unique for WDW in the next wave.

Edit: looks like Disneyland’s would have to be seemingly redone to fit. So unique layout for DL....

TSMM, Buzz, Winnie the Pooh, PhilharMagic, 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, TOT, heck even Space Mountain and Country Bears were WDW exclusive prior to cloning. So your logic that WDW is taking everyone else's exclusives all the time is flawed. IJS😊

It has merit.
