Ok,enough is enough..I can't stand it anymore..Reading these countdowns for my friends who are soon off on a magical journey..I'am now getting deep depressions and soooo jealous..So for the thousand or so other folk on here, who don't know when their next trip will be..How do you beat the blues syndrome.? If Figgy suggests drink. I'll,I'll, I'll, well I'll just have to pour one and wish her a safe journey.Bet seriously folks..What are your suggestions to cheer yourself up..This is the Real Mad Hatter..signing off..face tripping him..tears in the eyes..head bowed..:(

SGT! I had no idea! I am so sorry about you job situations but as usually you are making the best out of a stinky situation! I am sorry your DD won't be able to go but, there will be other trips! The Villians Party sounds exciting! Is this going to be a separate ticketed event?
Sounds to me, despite it all your going to have a Magical Time!

Hazards of being a DOD employee..we'll see as Figmentfan says..lets keep our fingers crossed..Congress can still pony up the money..and they can stop furloughs at any time they do get money..the Overtime hurt the most..and that cant be recouped even if furloughs do end...I'll enjoy Disney..of course and will be interested to try AKL...I'll also be interested to see how renting points works ut..so far it has been smooth sailing

I know the OT is sweet. I miss the days when DH had OT! Now retired there is none of that. His job now is just to stay busy, the salary and vacation aren't the best but he is happy. BUT!! We work with what we have and what we have is always good enough even when we don't think so.

I am anxious to hear about AKL, DH has been wanting to try it out. I hear lots of good reviews in regard to renting points.

All the best to you and the family my friend!

We go every other year and on our "off" year it is extremely hard for me to get through the summer, while trying to enjoy doing other things at home (NJ). I probably watch our home videos of our past Disney trips multiple times in the summer. I enjoy pestering my husband, too, with lightly begging him to take us there :) I get extremely jealous when I hear that other people are going. We are going NEXT August and I think about Disney EVERY DAY!!! I just joined this forum to help feed my addiction... lol... Maybe just try and plan a trip. Even if it isn't for another 2 years at least it will give you something to look forward to.

Keep your head up!!!

Thinking of leaving Thursday October 31 and coming home that Sunday. Short hop but, it will be a fix. DH wants to be at MNSSHP on Halloween. Keeping my fingers crossed. Mom and Dad suprised the family with the Disney Cruise for Thanksgiving week. We are trying to squeeze it all in...lol DH is expecting an extra week vacation but, it has not arrived yet.
My fingers AND toes are crossed!! (I'd cross my eyes but it would be difficult to type!) Nice surprise!!!!! Yayyyy Mom and Dad!!! We cruise on the Dream in Sept ;) Keep me posted!!!! How exciting!!!!!!

WEll Iknow the feeling..as I wrote in an earlier thread..I work for the Government..we had a week long trip planned for the week of Xmas this year..had 2 waterview rooms at the Boardwalk reserved for the week...although we were trying to get into a 2 bedroom villa..my Significant other had her Mom coming..my daughter would be done with the her Sophomore College Soccer Season..it was going to be special//and then Sequestration hit..we recieved our Furlough notices last friday..11 furlough days starting the week of 8 July and running until the end of this Fiscal year (31 Sept). I Furlough day a week for 11 weeks witch equates to 20% of my pay lost for 3 months..double whammy as my significant other also works for DOD. To make matters worse this also killed ALL our normal overtime..we usually clock in about 100 hours a year each..Financially even with the loss we will be ok..but it certainly wont be easy..bu there wast NO way to pay for a trip to Disney over XMAS losing that much income as my normal military discounts wont apply that week (blackout dates) After much frustration I made the call to cancel my Boardwalk reservations..

We sat down and tried to figure out what we could do to get back to Disney and decided to try something a little different..we looked at the non peak times at Disney and settled on trying something in September..I called the Timeshare Store to see if they had any points to rent for 2 beadroom villas..for the week of 13 September..it happens that we could get enough points at Kidani village for 11-16 September a Savannah View 2 beadroom villa. HTere were no Boarwalk/Beach Club points available...we decided to take it as the cost was more than resonable although it all had to be paid upfront..we also contacted Cranky Concierge who was hired to book our flights for Decembe r and asked them to try and find some great September prices..we have one member flying in from Washington State. They found us GREAT prices less than $300.00 round trip for each of us..so thats all paid..

We are also getting the DVC version of the deluxe dining plan..I should have it all paid for by the end of June..again you have to pay that entire cost upfront when going through the Timeshare Store..they will also take care of the DME reservation at tat time.

I can buy the military 4 day park hoppers here at Fort BRagg for about 180.00 a piece as there are no BO dates in September so we will pick those up as soon as I find myself on that side of the Installation.

Spending money is about counted for as we have funneled a bunch of money onto our CC which we use while in the Kingdom and will continue to add money until we hit the magic number we intend to spend..

It wont be the same as the Holidays and Ill miss seeing the Osborne lights..plus my daughter WONT be able to go..College Soccer is in full swing in September..

We chose the week of the 13th as it was posted in the Disney BLOG that DHS would be hosting a Friday the 13th Villians Party that night..although the blog entry is still there Disney wont confirm it yet...as part of the Summer promotion..they told us an official announcement would be made as it gets closer IF it happens.if it doesnt..well.as a consolation we will attend the MNSSHP which begins the week we are there.

bittersweet it is..but we are very fortunate to still be able to go albeit on a smaller scale.
Sgt, my husband is dealing with the same stuff, no advancements til October (although jobs are being posted) plus he lost "night dif" money for Sundays.

My obstacle is DH. He is bored with WDW and wants a really long break. I tried to plan this September trip so he could feel comfy skipping it, but he also doesn't want to miss anything..so now he's coming. I think this upcoming trip may be our last for a while unless I can come up with some other plan.
Yes ..... we need to do a girl's disney trip!! OR even better.... do a trip where the grumpy hubbies can hang out and we can float thru the parks!!!!!

I'm in this place right now...

no trips on the horizon and a quick story to make things worse...

my grandfather passed away almost 10 years ago, there were family issues regarding the home and it finally sold. I received a small gift from my mom that was related to this gift and it was enough to cover 10 nights at the BC in the DVC. I tossed and turned whether to just buy it or make a deposit to our house fund... at the end of the day financial logic won me over and we're closer to building our house.

Theres always someone beginning and someone ending a WDW trip at the same time. If only we could freeze time and stay in one place in time longer than 24 hours. OHHH how those WDW trips look so good in the beginning when you arrive, you have all the time in the world it seems to enjoy the magic. But the end of those precious days come too quickly, I always come home saying, where did the days go??? How can it be over????

Then start planning for the next. It is depressing to think in terms of how many more trips to Disney will I have in my life. So I focus on each blessed day I have in MK, EP, DHS, AK, DTD. And enjoy every second.....

Honestly, I basically stop looking at or reading anything about WDW from the time I get home until I feel reasonably sure that another trip is in the cards for us. We had a gap between mid-2009 and summer 2012 where we were not able to go (first kid was born, we had to spend a ton of money making much-needed updates to our house, our beloved dog became terminally ill, etc,) and I eschewed this place almost entirely. It was just too much of a bummer to read about everything we were missing out on. The worst part was that practically everyone on both sides of our family went multiple times without us during that time span, so we kept having to hear about it anyways, haha!

I'm still only tentatively stepping back over here...we have another kid on the way later this summer and so I'm only sort of sure we'll be ready for a trip by late winter/early spring next year. But I'm going to try my best to make it happen, especially since my older kid is in that perfect preschooler age right now where he absolutely believes all the characters are real. :)

I am so on that. My husband is definitely thinking something other than WDW for our next trip. We need to go visit his grandparents in Maryland before they get any older. I know it is important, but I start to freak a little thinking I may have to wait 2 or more years again!
