Treehouse villas

I was told on my DVC tour that after construction is finished for the international interns, that the treehouse villas would be revamped and opened for guests again. I am not sure how true this was or if this person would be getting this from a trusted source. Just wanted to know if any of you knew anything about this

This was the case, but since bigfoot had been spotted trolling the area, the plans were scrapped...

ok, nevermind, I found my answer .....hehehe sorry, guess I should have searched before I started the same thread.

That thread you pointed to is awfully old... Lots of things could have changed between 2005 and now.

I for one would LOVE LOVE LOVE if they re-opened the treehouses. I'd be first in line to stay there. But I don't know that I see it happening.

It seems like I remember reading something a LONG time ago about them having a problem with insects in the area, too. That would make sense, given the thick, wooded growth of the area. I know that every time we take the ferry from POR to DTD, I get eaten alive by mosquitos through some stretches. I'd bet it's the same way around the treehouses. That kind of thing is probably more acceptible at a place like Fort Wilderness, where people are camping and prepared for that, and paying very, very little per night. The treehouses (if I recall) were some of the highest priced rooms on property back in the day. These days if someone was paying MAJOR jack per night to stay at the treehouses, they might not take as well to having to deal with various insects as well maybe.

What I've heard several times is some version of the following. Although none of the particular sources were all that reliable, I've heard it from enough different sources that I believe the basic outline must be correct:

1) the Treehouses can't be used as guest areas because they are not handicapped accessible. They were built before the ADA, but eventually that grandfathering ran out.
2) Disney might be willing to spend the money to make some of them accessible (ADA doesn't require all of them be accessible), but apparently the fragility of the ecosystem, including the fact that the trees themselves are now protected, makes construction not possible.
3) However, they CAN be used for internal purposes, so some lucky CM's do get to stay in those wonderful accomodations.

We can only hope that something happens to allow the treehouses to be used for guests again. I stayed in one when I was a teenager, and it was really a great place to stay.

I do not have any insights on the rumors, but I have a funny tidbit. The only people who do not want to stay in the Treehouse Villas are the international CMs. It's kind of funny to think that the villas are some of the most talked about rooms on property, and the people that actually do get to stay in them can't stand it.

the biggest reason why thei nternationals hated living there is because there was no where to go. they only have to busses fro mthe treehouses. to the magic kingdom and to walmart. if they wanted to go anywhere else they would have to go to MK then take another bus/monorail from there!

And its true. all internationals who are currently located in the treehouses received a letter last month saying that they would be relocating to one of the other complexes by the end of the year and sometime at the start of next year they would be handed over to DVC.

I have heard from a CM that is currently staying in the Treehouses that it will in fact be used again for guests. I hope this is true because I always wanted to stay there.

unless some are made to be wheelchair accessable it will never happen.

they are going to be knocked down in the future anyway for the ever expanding DVC.

We own DVC at Saratoga. :)

In the package of legal documents mailed to us, is a plot plan for the Saratoga resort showing the boundries of the resort. The plot plan shows that the Tree House Villas as part of the Saratoga resort. It even shows the outlines of the individual Tree Houses along with the internal roadway and pool. I suspect most people never look through the thick packet of documents but I was trying to find an answer to another question I had and stumbled across the drawing.

Im not sure what site you were at but....I have stayed on property a few dozen times in my life with one trip to FW and in the long run it cost me more per night to be "camping" that at POR which is where I usually stay.

We rented a pontoon boat at OKW and cruised by the treehouses a couple of times. If they are going to open them back up to the public, they have alot of work to do on them. They look pretty run down.

Huh? Are you talking about the cabins? Because the partial hook up sites are MUCH less than POR. And the primitive camping at Creekside Meadows is a TON less.

Thats my point, I was in loop 400 which is a preferred loop with full hookup, catv and internet. Just because your camping your not always "paying very very little".

When you entered the treehouse, there was a good sized livingroom. Straight ahead was a small kitchen with a table and 2 chairs. There was a sliding door which lead to a balcony. There were 2 bedrooms off the livingroom which passed a bathroom. The master bedroom had a cool round tub! Before you got into the kitchen, there was a spiral staircase that lead down to another bedroom and the washer and dryer. Not too much privacy! The treehouses were one of my favorites.......expecially the huge tree trunk that went right through the livingroom!

There's an interesting reason why only international students are allowed to live there. Since the tree houses are located within the RCID any U.S. citizen living there could attempt to vote in RCID elections and potentially upset Disney's control of the property.
