Pack plenty of patience. The dates you are going are the most crowded time of the year. In order to experience the major attractions at all, much less with shorter wait times, get up early and be at the turnstiles 20-30 minutes before the park you want to tour that morning is scheduled to open.

When the wait times become too long for your comfort, take in shows or less popular attractions or take a break and then go back in the evening. Good luck!

Make sure you attend the "Reflections of Earth" fireworks, water, and lazer show at EPCOT. They have a special grand finale that is awesome. It will bring tears to your eyes!!!! "LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH" :xmas:

To get "shorter" (and I use that term loosly) lines, get to the parks just as the parking lots open (8 am).

As for the open drink question... I don't know. I've never seen anyone enter the parks with a drink in hand, but I doubt they will make you throw it out.

Hi. You need guidance.

www.touringplans.com is a very good place to start

You don't have to buy the subscription to the site or even the guidebook, the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (though most here will recommend it).

Just read the tips on the site and look over the best-days calendar. Then if you want to you can either find the Guide in a library or purchase it from a bookstore.

I don't normally say that having a plan is an absolute requirement for a trip to WDW, but going between x-mas and NYE without one or without much experience will be very difficult.

What you experienced in April will be nothing like the carnage that you will witness next week. Right now touringplans.com is predicting a crowd level of 10 at all 4 parks for your entire stay. Slade gave you a great piece of advice. Get to the parks at least 1 hour before opening. Use fast pass and do not expect to do everything. If you plan on watching shows and fireworks get there at least one hour if not more before show time. If you plan on watching NYE fireworks that one hour figure will increase drastically. Have all your dinning arrangements made before you get to WDW.

Good luck and have fun!

As you are not in Disney resort, you must get to parks early or you may risk not getting in at all. If crowds get too large they resrtict entry to "Disney resort Guests" only. Besides, when they get that crowded you don't want to be there anyway.

Since it sounds like you haven't done much prep time, my best advice is: Eat a big breakfast & pack snacks. It will be so busy, the odds are slim to none you'll be able to get into any of the sit-down restaurants, and wait times for counter-service food will be as long as lines for many of the rides. Depending on which park you're visiting, you may even be better off leaving the park for one of the resorts. Their sit-down restaurants will probably be booked solid, too, but the wait at the food courts might not be as bad.

Otherwise, as has been said, go early, much earlier than the official opening time, do as much as you can in those first few hours, and resign yourself to shows, smaller attractions and people-watching as the day progresses.

It looks like there will be extra magic hours at MK on everyday of your stay as well. You had mentioned that you are staying off-site so this will definitely create a little more of a headache for you as the parks will already be packed with resort guests by the time you are allowed to enter.

I've been those same dates for the past 5 Christmas/ New years. It's great!!

Just as a head's up, all the theme parks open earlier than their "stated time" on a daily basis, and you need not be a Disney resort guest to enter. For example, I know that MK was opened for the most part at 730 one morning two years ago, I think it was on Dec 29.

I know that it sounds foolish, but Disney does not check admission ticket/ room keys in the morning during this week. Everybody was allowed in regardless of them staying offsite. I didn't agree with this, but what could you do...

so tequnially i could stay till midnight as well
When you pay for admission, you pay for the whole day. You can stay from the time it opens, to the time it closes. A lot of places, like the shops on Main Street, dont close for another hour after the rides close.

For NYE, get into the parks as early as possible, especially since you are staying off site! Once you get in...stay in!

My best advice for the whole week, in terms of waiting in line, is to hit the "big" rides either really early in the morning, or late in the evening.

Now just think, if you were to lodging on Disney property, you could stay in the Magic Kingdom park on Dec 31 from 7am until 4am since they are having evening Extra Magic Hours (resort guests only) after official park close of 1 am. Yikes ~ a 21 hour MK marathon!! I'm beat just thinking about it!
:xmas:
Actually, MK has the morning EMH, and MGM has the evening EMH on the 31st. MGM is the park that's going to be open 'till 4am.

I only know this because I'm going for NYE too

9 more days! :king:

We have been there at the time you mentioned for the past three consecutive years.

Crowds are heavy, but you do want to get to the parks early in the day. I highly advise planning out your day such as what rides you definitely want to go on and where you prefer to eat. Just grab some park maps or check them out on Disney's website. Patience is definitely a virtue at this time.

Don't even bother going to the parks on NYE day. Spend the day resort-hopping or at Downtown Disney.

Do you live outside the United States?
