We're booked for our vacation and wondering if anyone can share opinions on if travel insurance is worth the cost? Also can anyone advise the best insurance to look at and the general costs of said insurance?

I'm sorry this isn't exactly what you're looking for, I can only tell you about my experience to give you something to think about.

As far as if travel insurance is worth it, IMHO, yes. Several years ago, my BF and I had a trip to go overseas booked and paid for, a few days before we were to leave, he broke his back. Something like that is totally unexpected. Unfortunately, with only a few days before our trip, we weren't able to cancel and get a refund, nor did we have any idea when we would be able to go, and with the nature of the incident, we weren't even in a mind set to consider rebooking. Our travel agent filed the paper work, and we got every penny of our trip refunded (minus the cost of the insurance of course).

Since then, I buy the insurance for that little peace of mind, it's worth the extra expense. I think the most I ever paid for travel insurance was $150 for two people to go overseas.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
A must for us just to have piece of mind. Also the prices are not high and is very affordable. Disney for the company they use is usually no more than $150. Or you can purchase some on your own from other companies if you want a little more coverage and to adjust a plan how you want and pay a little more depending on how many days you need etc. We have done both before. I can't recall the last one I used so I can't give you the name but you can research on the Internet to see which is your more reliable companies by reviews and comparison sites if you do not want to go through Disney. :)

For us it depends in the trip and cancellation policies of what we have booked. Like if you're traveling on a package vacation it may be more worthwhile than a room only because you can cancel a room only with little to no penalty. For cruises or travel out of the country, I won't go without. Not only is the cancellation coverage a must, the medical evacuation coverage is paramount for me. Read the policies carefully and know what you're buying. Disney Cruise Line's travel insurance, for instance, is priced high with gaps in the coverage. You can get better coverage for less from other brokers. Love www.insuremytrip.com!

I purchased it for both last year's and this years trip. We are travelling in August and it was worth the piece of mind. I used Allianz Travel Insurance, it was $112 for the basic plan for my trip. Also the website insuremytrip.com will give you multiple quotes from different companies.

Back in 2004 we bought insurance for our trip. While we were there hurricane Jean came threw the Orlando area and all the parks were closed for a day. Our insurance gave us a pro rated refund for that day. Since then I always buy insurance for my Disney trips.

We have purchased it for every trip. The simple fact of having a child getting sick enough not to travel the day you need to get on the plane could really cost a bundle. Since we book sometimes a year in advance it is a great peace of mind.

Especially for international travel, this part of trip insurance is perhaps the most important. When people first think of trip insurance, they often focus on the cancellation, lost baggage, delay aspects of coverage. But the medical insurance and evacuation parts that many policies cover in my opinion is even more valuable for those circumstances that no one can plan for. Even for travel within the US, it's important to know what your own medical insurance will and will not cover for where you are travelling. All of a sudden, being "out of network" with where you go when an emergency arises can end up being a huge financial burden when all is said and done.

Generally, I find the coverage that you can get as an "add on" with most vacation packages, whether booked through Disney, third party sites, etc, is higher priced and lower coverage than what you can get by shopping around for an insurance policy purchased separately. But if you go that route, you need to purchase it soon after you book your trip - usually within 7 or 14 days of booking to be able to get the full coverage for cancellation, etc.

It depends on the cancellation policy of my trip or if I'm traveling internationally. Always get it for international trips. I haven't booked my Disney trips as a package in awhile as I have found cheaper prices by booking in pieces sometimes, but I don't usually buy the insurance for Disney anymore, although sometimes for the flights.

This is something we are considering for our upcoming trip. We did not have any on our last trip and were lucky we didn't need it. But looking back it was September, and we are going in September again this year..it's hurricane season..anything could happen so we will be getting it this year, not from disney because I believe I can find it cheaper elsewhere

We purchase it and fortunately haven't had to use it but I do know others who did and were glad they had it. It's like any insurance... who knows what the future holds. I've been buying home insurance for years, never had to make a claim, meanwhile the guy two streets over has had a flood, a fire and a burglary. For the minor cost ... I opt for it every time.

We'll be doing a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas prior to our visit to WDW. I'm assuming thats considered international?
