Transformers - What did you think?

For me, I am glad UNI opened Transformers in USF. I understand the comparisons to Spider-man and I think they (originally) never intended the ride to exist so close to Spidey.

I think some of the things I appreciate more about Transformers is how they have improved on the technology that was used in Spidey. I feel the ride vehicle in Transfomers moves with more precision, it seems every movement has a purpose. The video/screens are a step above Spidey. I am blown away at how they are able to fool me into thinking we are traveling much much faster than we are. I am also amazed that you traverse the ride across two levels of viewing areas, but if I hadn't known this, I would have never noticed when the ride vehicle goes upstairs nor when it comes back down.

I know folks talk about the lack of sets, but I really enjoyed looking at the sets in Transformers and feel the set prior to the unload area is incredible with far too much detail to take in in one sitting.

Im at universal in November and as I am a bit of a scaredy cat is it more intense than spiderman? I love spidey but Im a bit apprehensive of going on transformers if there are a lot of 360 spins
The motion of TF is so much better than Spidey if you want less intensity. It seems to match the screen action much better and cause much less disorientation.

The transitions between screens and sets is much better than Spidey as well. It had better flow being more realistic set wise and screen wise.

I like TF much better, and yes, AGENT PIERCE!!!!!!!!!

Love Agent Pierce. Want him to divorce the First Lady and marry me. ;) My favorite of his roles. :)

Transformers did match movement to what was going on pretty well. :)

I used EP as well. Like the OP, I was not totally impressed. It was just OK. Spider-Man kicks Transformers hiney (with FJ blowing everyone out of the water). I guess I have been spoiled by Mummy, Spidey, FJ, etc- it just didn't seem like much went into this ride. Had I stood in line for 2 hours in the blinding heat, I would have been mad . Personally, I wouldn't wait 30 minutes.

I think:

We got an e-ticket in a storage location, we didn't lose an attraction, store or restaurant for this.
It was built from start to finish in less than 12 months and it hasn't really eaten out of budget for future attractions as I believe it was kinda a tax break that built this...

I think it's fantastic.

Before they gave Spider-Man a makeover, I'd agree, but ever since that, the movements seem tweaked and more accurate, and feels about the same as TF to me. Can anyone confirm if the ride vehicles were re-profiled during the digital makeover?

TF does throw you around a bit more, though.

Actually, I was thinking about this recently, its amazing how much more accurate today's motion simulators, like Spidey/TF, Simpsons Ride, and Star Tours 3D feel when compared to simulators from the 80's and early 90's are. For instance, I recently rode Wild Arctic at Sea World for the first time in a while, the movement of the simulator seems to have almost no relation to what is happening on screen.

Body Wars was the worst. One trip it virtually ruined my entire week.

The animation was completely redone from scratch, not just re-rendered as some have tried to claim. I think that would necessitate a reprogramming of the motion profile.

Yeah, it would make sense. One of the first things I noticed on riding the updated version was that it seemed much more in sync with the videos.

While in the Transformers thread, this is a random, off topic question, but can anyone tell me the name of the song Bumblebee is playing when he catches you? Its bugging me because I can't think of it! Thanks.

Spider-Man's vehicles actually have slightly different profiles, presumably because they were programmed separately, but they were definitely changed during the upgrade. On average, they spend more time in each scene than they did before.

Slightly off-topic, but they also upgraded each vehicle's sound system, not just the film(s.) I believe it's more similar to TF in that respect.

I'm not sure I understand. I don't think this could work, because it would throw off the timing of the ride vehicles and how they cycle through the ride. They could change the pitch, tilting, and spinning of the vehicles, but not their location/speed on each section of track. Kind of like how Test Track 2.0 travels the circuit in the exact same manner as before, because changing the speed of any particular zone would throw off the ride's timing.

I'm not sure how they accommodated for this, but they did. You now get to see parts of the animation you (usually) couldn't before, because you weren't spending long enough in the scene. It's only a difference of a few seconds.
