Transformative Multi-Year Expansion Announced for WDS Paris

Has a show for the lake actually been announced alongside this expansion

I’m still kinda iffy about if this expansion is enough. Parc Disneyland can’t deal with another 20 years of WDS hoovering up funding but current WDS is just so bad that two medium sized living lakes with 1 mega e ticket to anchor it without much expansion in everything else just doesn’t seem like enough

It kinda reminds me of HK going from day 1 offerings to “post mystic manor opening but pre frozen offerings”- objectively much better with an anchoring one of a kind attraction but still struggling to hold its own against the large established castle parks

I'm excited for the new WDSP, as most of us are, but frankly we all know this is more to do with the absence of quality in the park before than with the presence of it afterwards. TDS this is not. It's not even a DCA style restart, that other ugly stepchild park.

Two flatrides, there's a place for them in Disney parks but the ones I enjoy are heavily dependent on the atmosphere of their surroundings. A carrousel in FL is a great experience, on Paradise Pier something you do because there's there and there's nothing else to do. And even in TDS FS, the Art Nouveau / garden theme lacks true warmth and immersion. And at Paris, around the lake, you're not even at a certain place, just in certain surroundings.

Frozen the ride is a C-ticket. Again, it is not misplaced, but to port over an improvised short ride ten years after it opened...
Frozen also has another problem: the mountain / ice castle simply doesn’t transfer from the movie screen to real life well. It doesn't look good irl. Arendelle does.

The main draw is the LK flume, but obviously that one by rights should have gone into DLP, into AL, to round out that park. Even DLP needs a new E-ticket, like every few decades. And WDSP needed GE, or failing that, some other large land with more than one ride.

And from this piece of concept art, there's always a chance that they'll have some fountains in the lagoon during the day

Because they are modeled to be identical but the HK one at least flows into the natural landscape. The Paris one is an artificial mountain in the middle of a flat plain

I haven’t seen Paris complete but I’ve seen it pretty close to being finished by a friend who worked for Paris and Paris feels out of place

Can anyone explain to me how you
"See something by a friend " ?

You are lucky to have seen it irl before the park opens to guests.
I have seen Elsa's castle irl in HK and TDS. Neither worked well, the scale and visuals didn’t transfer well from screen to real life.
WDSP follows the same design principles.

The movie ice castle is about abstract form, colour, icy brightness. This could perhaps be translated into an immersive, enveloping environment. But most of the movie visuals' attractiveness is lost when its a medium sized prop set against rockwork, viewed at some distance.

So are you saying that you haven't seen the Paris one irl ?

Wouldn’t this apply to any of the prop architectural structures around the parks? Like the Eiffel Tower for example?

Do we know how big the ice castle is irl? And guests will be fairly close to it once Arendelle opens. In fact once any of the expansion opens, including Adventure Way.

This all comes down to judging something based on photos taken from some distance away, across the lake, and before it’s completed. Because in person it’s impossible to see much, the fencing is too high. Unless you count riding up and down on the drop parachute ride.

I mean I’m not sure why people are so insistent on the fact that this will be any different to HK and Tokyo. All three use the same design. Hell HK and Paris basically have the same entire land map and it works in neither so far

I’m not sure why Paris would be the one to suddenly make it work when they are using the same blueprint where it doesn’t work

Maybe some of us would rather judge for ourselves?

Criticising before it’s opened, just because you’ve seen it elsewhere, seems a bit churlish to me. As if you want to lecture us.

I see the expansion as a good thing for WDS, even if it’s not perfect. It’s a start.

It may look wrong when it finally opens to the public. I'm just not sure how people are so insistent on it looking bad with only photos from the internet to go by.
