I guess we’ll find out soon how the dining facility will be integrated into the building once the blueprints for the permits become available. My earlier point about whether it would be part of the ride itself or just share the building was more of a question than a statement.

I completely agree that the question of what role humans play in the land is an important one. While having boats float by the restaurant might create a beautiful atmosphere, it wouldn’t necessarily fit the storyline. That just makes me even more curious about how the shops and dining facilities will be woven into the story of the new land overall.

Shops and restaurants don’t need to be “woven into the story” as such.
Hakunah Matata bistro and Timon’s Boutique work by name alone.

If Animation shell was instead like Carthay-esque, that would be ideal.

I think that little swath (with genie spinner) other than Alice is probably the highest priority to up the ante on the quality of the park.
I'm hoping that there is at least a germ of an idea that somewhere down the track they could demolish the Animation building and replace it with something else. It's a reasonable amount of space, so I would think there would be lots of potential ranging from dining and retail to a dark ride. They could also demolish the facades and terrace on the other side at the same time and turn it into some kind of cohesive beginning to the long boulevard.

As for the Genie spinner, they just spruced it up so I guess it's also hanging around for the medium-term.

Yeah, totally get what you’re saying. But honestly, they’ve done a pretty good job in the newer lands like Pandora and Galaxy’s Edge, where the shops and restaurants feel like a real part of that world, not just something stuck in. Even if the connection is pretty light sometimes, it still keeps the whole vibe together. That said, The Lion King might be a bit trickier to pull off in the same way, so maybe they will keep it simpler like you suggested. Wouldn’t really be a shock.

It would be much easier to pull off a thematic fit by not having them in the show building. And I assumed that’s what they’d do, more like what they’ve done in Animal Kingdom. For me it’s disappointing they’re going to be in the show building, because that 100% won’t fit the LK theme. To my mind the show building should be totally disguised and the shops and restaurants themed to fit the plains of Africa.

Not sure if this is true, but I believe I read somewhere that they have to stick to the original footprint — more in terms of rough size and height, not the exact layout — from when it was still planned as Star Wars. Those plans already went through public consultation and approvals, so changing it too much might mean needing to get additional approvals again.

Adding things like a shop or dining inside the same building would let them stay within that approved size, even if it’s not the best fit story-wise.

If in Toy Story Land humans are supposed to be toys in the garden, I think we could be meant to be animals in the Lion King area. Maybe we're Rafiki's cousins.

I hope to go to Paris Disneyland once all these new projects are finished. Don't want to go before because there just isn't enough of an appeal to me.
