Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I think the frustrating thing for many will be that it is very close to being an actual land. If you factor in Toy Story Mania, and the two supporting rides, it can be argued it has enough in terms of rides. But what it lacks is a proper restaurant, gift shop and for a land aimed at kids, a proper indoor meet & greet and playground.
I think if it had three of those four and (given Mania’s age) a new D-ticket-or-better dark ride, I’d be a lot less grumpy.

conditioning or just good sense when we bemoan a new project for lacking a gift shop and proper m&g areas?

Something they could have easily done on both coasts as the locations of both are being "redone".
I remember when it opened we were talking about adding seasonal overlay games etc. Like the long awaited Star Tours changes, there is often a lack of funding to do these things once the thing is open and operational.

Hoping someone can answer this for me, since i have not really been following every detail on this and no way i am looking through nearly 600 pages...
The building/trailer between the Slinky coaster and TSMM... what is that going to be used for? It says something like midway games, but is it going to be a character spot? Also, looks like a playground of sorts next to the Lunchbox quick service.

Well on second look... i think I may have not seen the playground thing correctly... looked like some vehicles to climb on and the like a climbing tower... but may just be a tinkertoy lighting pole. still curious about the Midway game trailer thing though.

So on July 1st, after many guest complaints on opening day, Disney will fill the exterior queue with umbrellas. Will they be drink umbrellas or regular, unthemed umbrellas?

Oh. Um, can’t wait...

Yup, that's Mater's. It's a fun little ride and works great in Cars Land.

But it is important to remember that Mater's is also a fun little ride in a park (DCA) that has 20 other rides. Nine of those 20 other rides in DCA are fun yet basic little rides like this; Flik's Flyers, Golden Zephyr, Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters, Francis' Ladybug Boogie, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin' Jellyfish, Pixar Pal-Around, Carousel, and Heimlich's Chew Chew Train.

Mater's Junkyard Jamboree makes the tenth small ride, while the other ten rides in DCA are dark rides (Monsters Inc., Midway Mania, Little Mermaid) or noticeably larger thrill rides or big E Tickets (Soarin', Radiator Springs Racers, Incredicoaster, Grizzly River Run, Goofy's Sky School, Mission: BREAKOUT).

The ride menu in DHS is starkly different than the ride menu in DCA where Mater's has been a popular offering for the last six years. Nothing like Mater's exists in DHS, which only has five other rides to offer for another 18 months (Tower, RnRC, Star Tours, Midway Mania, Slinky Dog Dash). That leads me to believe Alien Swirling Saucers will be a smash hit in the ride desert that is DHS. I expect rave reviews and very long lines this summer for Alien Swirling Saucers.

Now all they need to do is add another half dozen fun little rides like this to DHS to balance out the half dozen other big E Tickets, and the park will be on its way.

Thanks! Some of those reviews are... a little over the top. But you have to appreciate how excited these kids are for these two new rides.

I think people need to stop thinking about this as a “land.” That term sets unrealistic expectations and gives the area too much credit.

Did you read the CM reviews MisterPenguin linked? There's one girl who actually said this... "It was amazing! It's everything I have ever wanted in a land."

Just let that sink in for a bit.

She doesn't need New Orleans Square in Disneyland with Pirates and Mansion and the Blue Bayou, she doesn't need Fantasyland with a hundred things to do, she doesn't need Tomorrowland or Pandora or Cars Land. Toy Story Land is everything she has ever wanted in a land. o_O
