Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I also think they could have padded the land with Parachute Drop or RC Racer but I get the sightline problem.

I'm also still bummed about them cutting out the Woody's Roundup area. Sure it was probably a meet and greet/bathroom or whatnot, but still ... it would have added something unique to our land. They also seemed to have cut some of the theming around the coaster. Shame an already bare land was cut further, even if the budget was probably outrageous.

I think it's nice we have two different rides. No one seems to hate Mater's (though I realize there's also Luigi's and a great E-ticket in Radiator Springs Racers as well), and we're getting a coaster, be it more of a family one but it's not exactly THAT lame. I figured there'd have been more complaining if we got the rides Paris and Hong Kong have? At least ours are unique to the land. I know some argue against it but not everything can be an E-ticket, parks need flat rides. But I think many wouldn't complain AS much if we were also getting, say Monsters Inc Door Coaster, or a little bit more on top of it.

Rides look unquestionably better than Paris but it seems like a large area of land where they could easily have stuck a few more carnival type rides in to bulk it out a bit. What they are adding I think is welcome, but more wouldn't have touched the sides of their massive purse strings! Local parks pop these things up all the time, all be it with less themeing.

Very much agreed. It's a LOT of land for just two attractions, with the third one already attached towards the back and IMO not an e-ticket by any means, even if it gets the waits of one. And they even cut some of it ... makes no sense to me. I'll be happy for maybe wide areas to walk around but then if it's too large you lose even more of the theming. And just how much "grass" are we going to see as theming in the land? It's probably going to be concrete heaven. But we'll see ... they could have done more with it for sure. But I hope it's better than we're making it out to be.

Agreed on Roundup. I think it would have completed that area pretty well.

The other lands just use really dense greenery to hide the berm.
Lots of small leaves. Bamboo, maybe, since it kind of looks like grass?

I guess for the secondary parks WDSP in particular. This type of theming is OK but that type of thing really should not be in a castle park.

Is Toy Story Mania being played in Andy's bedroom? Maybe he brought it outside onto his lawn. I thaink that's what they'll go with, especially because the entrance in the concept art looks like the entrance to a box.
That's probably going to be the contrived backstory that will explain the presence of "Midway Mania" Though to be fair the original setup was kind of contrived too.

I have found the solution. As we are walking through the new entrance, Andy is carrying the playset up to his bedroom. By the time we get to the load area, we have arrived at the new location.
This is why WDI's insistence on pointless backstories hurts the credibility of the parks.

What exactly is the problem here?
The indoor attraction is inside the house and the outdoor attractions are in the yard.
You go into the house by walking through a box? The whole Andy's backyard concept is stupid. What should have happened is they should have kept the Pixar Studios concept and solve the problem of too much Pixar in the parks in the wrong places by creating a dedicated area for Pixar properties which I am sure was the plan back in 2008, but no we have to constrain ourselves by building a whole land around one movie with an unnessacary backstory to try to tie it in and we lose Pixar Place in the process and Pixar properties continue to pop up in uncomfortable places throughout the parks. The long-term planning on WDI's part for this venture is crazy.

So much could have been done with Toy Story. A dark ride instead of a shooting game would have been a lot better.

I actually love the shooting ride and the kids I've taken on it seem to have the most fun there than on any other ride in the park. It's much better than Buzz. It's a fun, interactive ride that is a welcome addition among the other traditional dark rides.

Is it technologically advanced or pushing the envelope of what Disney imagineering can accomplish? No. But it is downright fun and sometimes we have to remember thats what the park is there to accomplish, having fun.
