Toy Story and Soarin Rumors

I can confirm that I heard that same rumor a couple of months from upper management, it is all about increasing capacity for popular rides. I don't know if they are going through with it but it is definitely being discussed with upper management.

You know what would increase capacity in the parks, to alleviate crowding on popular rides - more new attractions. If you are actually going to spend the money (!) to build something, why not build something new rather than more of the same. You create additional ride capacity either way.

They *should* build Frozen *next* to Norway, but that makes too much sense.

They shouldn't build Frozen anywhere in Epcot. It just thematically doesn't belong there.

NOT MY RUMOR. I"M JUST POSTING IT.

"Well, according to my sources, much of the challenges relative to waiting in long queues will partly be relieved as Epcot’s Soarin’ has commenced work on a third theater behind The Land. Already, a number of trailers have been removed from behind that area to allow for the building of an additional theater/projection system. Currently there are two theaters already when the entire attraction is up and running. With the new movie being added where guests will be Soarin’ around the world instead of just California, it’s considered that this will help relieve some of the additional demand for experiencing the attraction.

Interestingly the same thing is being planned for Disney’s Toy Story Mania. Because of how the vehicles spin about, many guests don’t know that there are actually two track systems that carry guests through the many games. By taking over the Soundstage 1 space temporarily held by the wildly popular Oaken’s Trading Post and Frozen Funland, they will be able to add an additional track and again increase capacity. The upside of that is that more guests will experience the attraction. The downside is that many had hoped the space would be used for another attraction. The timing for this is a little uncertain. But those waiting for major changes to the Studios have become accustomed to second-guessing the timing of things."

I don't believe it until I see it but those two rides have some of the longest wait times ever and slow moving lines too. They should also find a way to make the Soarin building less of an eyesore.

Sorry haven't read the whole thread so forgive me if someone with more clout than I has come around but I can confirm that my sources have been talking about the TSMM thing very recently as well though they didn't know how the third track would fit in. They've talked about the third Soarin theater too, but that was a long time ago now.

You beat me to it. There is zero way to expand into Soundstage 1 without totally redoing the attraction.

Here's the layout:
toy_story_mania_possibilities.jpg

Soundstage 1 is to the *left* of all this. The only time the attraction gets anywhere near it is the final section of the outer track.

And the original thread that's from:

Thank you!

But just reading that original rumor without the track map, it would be impossible to add capacity to this ride simply by branching off more track into Soundstage 1, even if that building was directly adjacent to the existing ride track. You would still have a set number of vehicles loading/unloading a set number of people over a set amount of time in the station. That's what determines ride capacity; the loading area and how many vehicles it accommodates in how much time.

Adding additional track or spur lines before or after the station loading area does nothing for hourly capacity. To increase capacity at Toy Story Midway Mania you would need to build an additional station, dramatically enlarge the vehicles to seat more people, or a combination of those things in the loading area station.

Hey, has anyone seen my BS Flag? I forgot where I left it and its time to fly it high.

If this were true, we'd have a boatload of cast members saying "yeah, there's construction happening behind Soarin!"

Out of the two, I find the Soarin! Rumor much more plausible. We'll know soon enough there.

BS? Or plausible? I guess it could be plausible BS.

Agree completely. Epcot needs something new, but that new attraction needs to stick to the theme of the area/park it's in. Before you know it WS will become HS

Oh, I agree. Was just going off them deciding Epcot was the place for Frozen, so if it *really* had to go there, at least build it next door to Norway and do a well-themed land. I'd rather it be nowhere near EPCOT.
Indeed. Epcot is for real places. Arendelle seems like not a real place but a place, or land, of fantasy (does WDW have a place for fantasy lands...seems like maybe), where people control weather, snowmen talk and sing, and rock trolls do whatever rock trolls do.

Frozen could fit in Norway only as an example, if it is a good one (and I think it's not), of Norwegian literature, myth, etc. Heck, Thor would fit better in that regard!

However, I am sadly resigned to it happening, and just hoping that it comes out as a good attraction, even if it doesn't belong.

As already stated in previous threads, I'm 100% all for a Soarin' expansion in preparation for the update... love the ride but hate queuing for that thing. As for TSMM I also hate queuing for that, but I can think of hundreds of things that need doing before TDO even consider using a potential ride space like SS1 to expand an existing attraction... an attraction that sucks up so much time of a guest's day that it ensures people fail to realise how little else there is to do at DHS.

IF Soarin' were to be expanded with a third screen, I would like to see them make some changes to loading which would help increase capacity throughput.

I had an idea about this recently, where there would be two loading areas, one to the left and one to the right of the screen, then the ride carriage (seats) would be on an overhead track and be moved into the screen/projection area independently. So, one side would be unloading/loading while the other side would be viewing the film. It would look something like this:

Agree about TSMM, I think one of our insiders (possibly Martin) hinted at the Soarin' theater a while back but budgets are often slashed in favor of shareholder dividend's.

"Spirited WDW NEWS:
Apparently, I was wrong about EPCOT and new things. Two big ones are on the way.

Yep, look for a third theater coming to Soarin (to make the eyesore even larger) and that expansion pad between Mexico and Norway?

Something is coming there as well.

P.S. May have some more news soon .Checking some info out."

I wish they would have stuck with that concept betweem Mexico and Norway instead of shelving it, (if frozen has to be in epcot at all,, which I agree with the rest of you it shouldnt) but it would be better cramming it into Norway which wont be able to handle the crowds..., but oh no cant spend money, that would cost too much, so we get another cartoon overlay....meanwhile down the road a few miles....

also there was a post above that mentioned thor would have been a better fit, I agree would much rather have seen that instead of more princess costumes and turning norway into a princess mall.
