(Spoilers ahead - proceed with caution!)
If you are lucky enough you may catch soft openings of the Town Square Theater meeting area on Wednesday or Thursday. But Friday, April 1, will see the grand opening of this great new area to see and interact with some of the Magic Kingdom's most popular characters. In the past, the town theater provided entertainment from singers to dancers to vaudeville. Well, Mickey is putting together a magic trick to perform, but he's ready to take some time in his dressing room to meet his fans!
You'll enter through the front doors of the Town Square Theater into the Rotunda, with Tony's Restaurant on the left and Photo Pass on the right, and walk straight ahead to the marked doors. To see Disney Princesses use the left door, while Mickey is to the right. Signs near the doors indicate which princesses are visiting, and the wait times for both sides. Fastpass lanes are indicated on the left and right, while the standby lines are toward the middle. A large, ornate room is filled with queue lines, is next, keeping all guest together but heading toward different areas. Pay attention to the classic posters on the walls of Mickey the Magician as they magically come alive!
Those seeking an audience with the Princesses will find them visiting toward the back of the theater. As in the old Toon Town visits, small groups will be taken to the visiting area, which has a more informal royal garden feel to it (I loved seeing the castle looming over the hill!) and you get a chance to meet each of the Princesses in turn. Photo Pass photographers will be there as well as the ever efficient attendants to help your visit.
Guests want to meet Mickey will be directed to the backstage area where his dressing room is located. Again, small groups of guests will be taken in at a time, to keep the visit more intimate and uncrowded. Here is where it gets hard, because the dressing room is so highly themed you may not know what to concentrate on - Mickey, or the room! But here are some things to look: Trunks by Col. Haithi (notice the travel stickers from worldwide Disney resort hotels), A bill of sale from Thaddeus J. Toad's Motor Works, a disappearing dove, a rabbit who has already disappeared but found a treat from Alec Azam (as well as a congratulatory note from Presto, the magician!), and a very special Hidden Mickey in the magic trunk! Other items referenced Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, The Band Concert, and a shelf that tributes all four WDW parks! Of course, the highlight will be Mickey himself, and with luck, his magic assistant, Minnie!
After your visit you will exit through the magic hall (it's magic because at the end you will turn into a store! Ha!) to a giftshop full of merchandise meant to remind you of your visit to Mickey & Minnie or the Princesses. Themed to a magic warehouse, look around for different magic tricks like 'sawing a person in half', 'swords through the basket', and the famous 'Zig-Zag Woman'. Leaving the shop will lead you to the Photo Pass area, where you can view the pictures of your recent visit.
I was thrilled by the care and theming given to to this area, which has given Mickey a wonderful place to meet his friends! No tricks for this magical area, just treats!
