(Spoilers ahead - proceed with caution!)

If you are lucky enough you may catch soft openings of the Town Square Theater meeting area on Wednesday or Thursday. But Friday, April 1, will see the grand opening of this great new area to see and interact with some of the Magic Kingdom's most popular characters. In the past, the town theater provided entertainment from singers to dancers to vaudeville. Well, Mickey is putting together a magic trick to perform, but he's ready to take some time in his dressing room to meet his fans!

You'll enter through the front doors of the Town Square Theater into the Rotunda, with Tony's Restaurant on the left and Photo Pass on the right, and walk straight ahead to the marked doors. To see Disney Princesses use the left door, while Mickey is to the right. Signs near the doors indicate which princesses are visiting, and the wait times for both sides. Fastpass lanes are indicated on the left and right, while the standby lines are toward the middle. A large, ornate room is filled with queue lines, is next, keeping all guest together but heading toward different areas. Pay attention to the classic posters on the walls of Mickey the Magician as they magically come alive!

Those seeking an audience with the Princesses will find them visiting toward the back of the theater. As in the old Toon Town visits, small groups will be taken to the visiting area, which has a more informal royal garden feel to it (I loved seeing the castle looming over the hill!) and you get a chance to meet each of the Princesses in turn. Photo Pass photographers will be there as well as the ever efficient attendants to help your visit.

Guests want to meet Mickey will be directed to the backstage area where his dressing room is located. Again, small groups of guests will be taken in at a time, to keep the visit more intimate and uncrowded. Here is where it gets hard, because the dressing room is so highly themed you may not know what to concentrate on - Mickey, or the room! But here are some things to look: Trunks by Col. Haithi (notice the travel stickers from worldwide Disney resort hotels), A bill of sale from Thaddeus J. Toad's Motor Works, a disappearing dove, a rabbit who has already disappeared but found a treat from Alec Azam (as well as a congratulatory note from Presto, the magician!), and a very special Hidden Mickey in the magic trunk! Other items referenced Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, The Band Concert, and a shelf that tributes all four WDW parks! Of course, the highlight will be Mickey himself, and with luck, his magic assistant, Minnie!

After your visit you will exit through the magic hall (it's magic because at the end you will turn into a store! Ha!) to a giftshop full of merchandise meant to remind you of your visit to Mickey & Minnie or the Princesses. Themed to a magic warehouse, look around for different magic tricks like 'sawing a person in half', 'swords through the basket', and the famous 'Zig-Zag Woman'. Leaving the shop will lead you to the Photo Pass area, where you can view the pictures of your recent visit.

I was thrilled by the care and theming given to to this area, which has given Mickey a wonderful place to meet his friends! No tricks for this magical area, just treats!

did you notice if the mural with all the characters on it survived the refurb, or are the rumors true that the wall fell apart when they were remodeling?

I was told it was removed and sent to the Disney Archives in California. While I trust who told it to me, I believe it would be very difficult. I'll wait to see pictures from there to entirely ease my mind about it.

Sounds good.

How many theaters do the new greeting areas take up? Just one or both?

The new area takes up the entire back of the old Exposition Hall, both the old Walt Disney Story Theater and the small cinema with the cartoon photo props.

Is it just me or does it seem like they could have easily have fit this into the Storybook Circus area?! It would have been perfect.

Thank you for such a detailed description. It will be a long time until we are able to make it back and this helps us visualize what a wonderful experience this will be.

This sounds like meeting Mickey in the theater will be such a vast improvement in experience over Toontown Fair.

When I was on my CP back in 1985 (hence my screen name), we cast members were able to get passes for a screening of The Black Cauldron in that theater.

Then, when my daughter was young (early 90s) this was an area to meet Mickey Mouse for a while, but nothing so intricately themed as this.

I am looking forward to this new place to meet Mickey (and sometimes Minnie).

I assume there will not actually be a Magic Show inside, and that it's only Mickey and Minnie that will be getting the Fastpass treatment?

Maybe!?! But Mickey needed a permanent home and quick... temporary M&Gs for Mickey wouldn't do until Storybook Circus opens back up. And I'm wondering if this M&G is some sort of strategy on Disney's part... a way to get people back up Main Street duing the day and then they will have to pass by the shops. I would imagine a lot of people (and I'm guilty of this) just rush through Main Street on their way into the park in the morning and then on their way out in the night.

I think this is a fine fit for Mickey, he deserves a "home" at the front of the park!

Does anyone know which princesses will be meeting on Main Street? Is it the ones who met in Toontown? Once their permanent Fantasyland princess-palooza palace is built, apparently all the princesses will meet there in a giant conglomeration sans princes. Lately I've been seeing photos of Naveen & Tiana and Ariel & Eric in the temporary Adventureland princess-palooza palace as opposed to in their unique designated areas. It's got me worrying that we might be losing the princes sooner than anticipated. :( Can anyone help me out with this? I'm not ready to lose Prince Naveen yet; he's my favorite character to meet by far.

This all sounds great. Glad this wasted space is being put back into use. I have a few questions though.

So what happens to the Princess M&G rooms once those ladies move back to the new location in FL?

I wonder if the FL Princess M&G area will be this highly themed and with FastPass?

Perhaps they were only there because it was a rainy day or something.

Besides, maybe the princesses' respective co-stars will greet guests along side them in their respective rooms in the Princess Fairytale Hall.

While their availability may vary, you should find Cinderella, Aurora and Belle for a royal audience (and yes, they will have Fastpass!) The vacated Veranda will be given a dash of pixie dust as the Fairies return after their engagement with the Flower and Garden expo at Epcot. Tiana and Naveen still love their gazebo in the Glade, so you can expect to find them there for a while. Ariel will put her land legs to work until her new Grotto opens near the new Mermaid attraction. She hopes to be back on the Veranda porch since the new bridge is open, but you'll find her just past the Dole Whips in the Veranda gazebo until then.

Glad to hear PH is not going to be a permanent part of FW. That would have been terrible.

Cindy, Aurora and Belle? Interesting in that I think this proves they will be only a temporary prescence on MS. We know Mermaid and Belle will have a permanent spot in the FLE. And I think we can now assume the rumor that Cindy and Aurora will be in the former SWSA temporarily is also true. So my theory that Cindy and Aurora will get permanent m&gs eventually in the FLE seems likely in this scenario and fits that rumor.

Tiana will likely be permanently near the RoA, Jasmine and Jack S. in Adventureland, Donald and Woody in Frontierland, Goofy in the new Circusland, Buzz, Stitch and possibly Pluto in Tomorrowland.

Huh, I wonder where they will put PH? Lee?
