I understand what you're saying about being next to a large person. I went on TOT with 2 other friends, one being much smaller than the other 2 and she really flew in the air because she had no lap bar to hold her in. I had to grab her arm, I thought she was going flying for sure!
I love TOT - seems like this change will make it even more fun!:sohappy:

I have never ridden with the seat belt, but I guess I will be now.

And to go with the 5% ride capacity decrease...

I remember reading the the reason they are putting in the belts, was because they raised the srop speed now. The Lawyers said the the lap bars are not suitable for the speed which is why the seat belts are being added. Even if they are taking out a seat, they are still speeding the ride up a little which should cover the decrease in capacity and keep it close to the same hourly rate.

I'm not sure I believe that. I think that the seatbelts were added to make the ride safer, because of the fact that the lap bars were not individual, therefore how safely it worked depended on how larger and or small the people sitting next to you were.

Plus, even if the drops were faster, the ride time is still the same, which means that faster drops doesn't affect the capacity at all. Ride time does. So there is still a decrease in capacity.

Someone had mentioned that the elevators now only hold 20 people. This is incorrect. Before the modifications, they held 22 people, now it's down to 21.

Seating

The first time a rode ToT back in version 1 I was to the left of a guy that got the seatbelt/sucide seat. I realized two things. He was in the seatbeat and was already freaking out about the ride. I loudly mentioned to my daughter seated to my right, "Oh look! This gentleman doesn't have anywhere to hold on to the ride car." (I know, I know - it was mean). It was the first time I ever saw someone actually drain to white with fright like they do in cartoons.

Years pass and version two, "Twice the fright" is programmed in and I'm OK with the drops now so I decide to video tape the ride. (Again, I know - NOT suppose to be doing this but I gotta hold on to the camcorder anyway so why not just hit the record button and point it outward at lap level). But how to manage the camcorder and hang on at the same time? Seatbeat seat! Taping or not it's the best ride and significantly safer IMHO as you don't float past the lapbar if you're next to a larger size person.

One of the best gags a CM ever did to me on this ride was to "check" my seatbelt for a secure fit just before closing the doors at the start of the ride. "Is the seatbelt secure sir?", he asked as he pulled the seatbelt out about six feet from me demonstrating the slack in the belt reel. "Goooood, have a plesant ride, sir.", as he smiled and bowed out the quickly closing doors. Everyone had a good laugh at my situation.

(Spolier follows . . .)

OK, the seatbelt won't reel out on you as you might think. It "latches" as the ride begins and can spool out a few inches from drop to drop to give you some air time. You will actually float less than most people in a lapbar but the effect is the same but safer. So for those of you "freaking" about loosing the lapbelt take a breath and relax. Now your hands are free to grab for your friends in terror.

Happy riding!

Seat Belts

I think it's much safer with the seat belts. I am a larger person and I always felt bad for the poor little kid that sat next to me. Now with the seatbelts, everyone is tightened to their size and you do go up further in the seats and it's sooooooooo much fun. You might go up further but your also secured more. It's absolutley the best!

oh and if i remember correctly, The cars still have bugs, when i gone over Spring break last week today. I seen on my third try at night that a seatbelt car had broke and a nother one just broke, in the same shaft, i think they still have bugs to work out.
This is from my memory, not toltally fact, some may be change.

I'm glad they did this also, its been talked about for some time but hasn't happened, and with the new sequences this should make the ride out of control even more.

Gotta love this attraction, it keeps getting better and better and better.

i was at mgm about a week ago and i went on TOT 2 times. one time i got a lap bar and the next time i got a seatbelt!! there were girls that were upset because they liked the lapbars, and they even got up to leave but the bellhop told them to just sit down (which was very mean because the girls seemed very scared). also, as i was going into the elevator the first time i went on it and half the people were already sitting down, a red light went off and we had to all get out of the elevator and go to a different one! it was actually kind of scary!

In Evan's defense, the ride does, indeed, travel at a faster speed now. The drop sequences themselves are not longer than Fear Every Drop was, so due to the increased speed, you now spend a few seconds less time in the elevator. I doubt it makes the ride 5% shorter, but the change in capacity is still negligible. They often did not fill up elevators with 21 guests, anyway. At most, it adds a minute or two you your wait time--not a big deal. It should be fun when I go in August (first time I've been since Never the Same Fear Twice started) and all the elevators have been converted. Between that and SPACE...and possibly PhilharMagic, I'm psyched!

I will have to strongly agree. Only having a seatbelt would freak me out as well. But I will ride it, lap bars or not!:animwink:

So then. This leaves a question?

Since the speed and intensity of ToT is constantly being increased. When will Disney actually have to install a better "elevator drop system"?

This don`t make sense though,Wouldn`t replacing lap bars with seatbelts make Disney`s insurance go up? I mean seatbelts are fabric which can tear or wear as with lap bars which are metal and more sturdier? and what happens if the buckle is defective and gives way? Wont someone get seriuosly injured?

Ugh... Just get on the ride!
What if there's a small child sitting in the same row as a tall, large person? I used to hold my legs up a little bit on purpose when the lap bars were coming down and keep them there until we got into the drop shaft, just so I would come out of my seat during the ride. That's part of the fun, damnit.
Meanwhile, I was there a few days ago and I got an all seatbelt car. And, I also got what used to be the jump seat (the seat in the middle of the back row) so, my legs were kinda up in the air on the big drops. And I had a lot of fun. Either way, it's all fun.
Just enjoy it.
