What if there's a small child sitting in the same row as a tall, large person? I used to hold my legs up a little bit on purpose when the lap bars were coming down and keep them there until we got into the drop shaft, just so I would come out of my seat during the ride. That's part of the fun, damnit.
Meanwhile, I was there a few days ago and I got an all seatbelt car. And, I also got what used to be the jump seat (the seat in the middle of the back row) so, my legs were kinda up in the air on the big drops. And I had a lot of fun. Either way, it's all fun.
Just enjoy it.
Well they wont be enjoying it if they get seriously hurt and sue the pants off of Disney!and what about the stupid people who would uunbuckle their seatbelts just to sue Disney?

Well, let's look at this logically now.

1) The lap bars were for an entire row of people, which, at the most, was four people. Now, whoever was the largest person in that row, had a nice secure fit by that lapbar, whereas everyone else in that row had a bit too much room to move around in and wasn't as properly secured.

2) Now, each and every seat has a individual seat belt, meaning that each seat has a comfortable and safe securing device no matter what your size. (Within reasonable limits of course.)

3) You can't just unbuckle the seatbelt in the middle of the ride. It's not like a car seatbelt. It actually is locked during the ride and won't come unlocked until you reach Unload. If a seatbelt does become unlocked during the ride, that vehicle is shut down and stopped.

4) All the safety systems, including seatbelts, are checked daily. Meaning if a seatbelt is showing signs of wear and tear, it is taken out and replaced.

It's as simple as that.

Seat belts

I agree with the last post.......the seat belts are much safer in my eye because everyone is secure no matter what size the person sitting next to you is. My husband is 6:5 and once he had a little girl sitting next to him. He was a nervous wreck because she kept coming up next to him. He didn't know her but he made sure everytime there was a drop, he put his are around her to keep her from flying up. This is soooo much better. To me, there will be no suing with the restraints the way they are now.

You can't unbuckle your seatbelt. Once the ride starts, the belts can't be unbuckled until the ride is over. People aren't going to get hurt anymore with the belts than they did with the lap bars.
Like I said, I would hold the bar up a little with my knees to give myself more of a thrill. I can't do that anymore, but the ride is so cool now, I don't have to.
Meanwhile, have you ever actually been to these parks? Have you ever been on the rides that have seatbelts? I've noticed you've been making a lot of baseless statements lately...

I don't think you can compare a roller coaster bar with the bar for ToT. On coasters there's forces coming from all sorts of different angles, but on ToT all the forces are only in the vertical. For that reason I don't feel a bar is nessecary, but more importantly, on a coaster the bars are INDIVIDUAL not on a group like ToT's was. I agree with the argument that any form of individual restraint is better than it's group counterpart. For example, the two person seatbelts on Kali are not the best form of restraint (though they are probably sufficient for the ride).

Seatbelts are safer than lap bars on roller coasters, as well. That is why there has been a wave going through many Six Flags parks adding seat belts to the coasters. For example, a few years back, a man in the front seat of the then-new Superman Ride of Steel flew out of the car b/c the lap bar did not hold him in--so they added seatbelts. Seatbelts are the most effective restraining system we have, that is why we use them in cars and on the space shuttle. They hold all guests snug against their seats.

I have no problem with both seatbelts and bars, personally I prefer the bars that go over your shoulders like the batman xflight it has both seatbelt and shoulder bars.

Don't even suggest over-the-shoulder harnasses on the Tower of Terror...that would just be absurd.

Actually, from a Science perspective, this would kill you unless you had sufficient air, food, and water added, and a place for your waste products to leave. :king:
