Tower of Terror...I'm Scared!

I have never been on it. I would need .5 mg of Xanax to even wait in line. :p

Other rides I won't go on:
SM
SplMt
RNRC
EE

I do get tempted from time to time, just to see what I am missing. I think anticipating the unknown is what prevents me.

I hate the feeling of free falling too, and I also hate heights. I went on ToT when I was much younger. It's worth doing just to see if you'll like it. I enjoyed it, but my dislike of free falling is enough that I don't regularly ride it. I'm glad I experienced it though. I am fine with EE, and I finally got the nerve to ride Splash a few years ago (love it.) The only things I avoid completely are ToT, Space Mountain (I hate the darkness), and Mission: Space. Anything else is fair game.

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
I hate the falling feeling and on 3 Trips to the World no way would I do it!

Then on my last trip not being able to see what is THE BEST themed attraction along with HM got to me and I sucked it up!!

Man I'm glad I did, it's a class attraction! Since then I've also done it in DLP and will also be back on it multiple times in August :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Do you go on Big Thunder Mountain? The drop on Splash Mountain is the only significant drop on the ride and you can see it from outside the ride so it is not an unknown. Everest is marginaly more intense than Big Thunder, in my opinion. I fully understand that overcoming a fear is not an easy thing to do. It is easier if you have someone with you that you can lean on. Do yourself a favor and do them once. You're missing a really good time.

 We're heading back to Disney at the beginning of June for our 4th trip. I have yet to ride TOT. I HATE that feeling of a free fall. My hubby and daughter love it and swear I will too but I just can't make myself do it. I ride all the other rides and absolutely love them. So my question to ya'll really is, just how bad is it??

I also hate free falls, but a couple of years ago, I decided to try it...it is not as bad as I thought.
Actually RNRC & EE are worse.
Try it...you may like it!

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
As others have pointed out, the drop sequence is only one part of the experience - the best part, mind you.
If you really can't psyche yourself up, at least join the rest of your party, and go through the queue, the library and the boiler room, and then avail yourself of the chicken exit. And then, when you get home, Youtube the ride to see the rest of what you missed.
FYI - I am not a fan of elevators, but I LOVE TOT, and always ride out the drop sequence with my arms straight up in the air. I love the feeling of being lifted out of my seat.

We need time for things to happen.
My second favorite and sometimes my favorite ride...it flip flops between TOT and Splash Mountain.

Look if you don't like that feeling of falling...You're not going to be super comfortable on this ride.

With that being said...I will say this everyone in my family has been scared of this ride at some point. They've all gotten over it eventually.

Like another poster said...Try it twice...

Having rode ToT over 100 times, I can say the only scar part is the first initial drop. I hold on for the first drop every time (unless you get shot up first) and then the rest is a piece of cake and I let go. Haha!

I highly suggest trying this.

I hate regular free fall rides but love ToT. A far as heights you only see out into the park for maybe 3 seconds. Enough to realize that it's time. I was in the front row and the girlfriend and I had a tight grip to the sissy bar. When the drops were happening I was having fun but did not let go of the bar, to hard of a reflex to overcome. When we exit the ride the 8 yr old in our party wanted to go on again.

When I was young I had many chances to ride roller coasters with my father. But I was to overwhelmed with fear to even get near them. So I missed out on many memories that I wish I had. Now his health issues would keep him from riding anything like ToT now that I have the testicular fortitude to enjoy the big rides.

Do it at least once or you'll have regrets.

Like most things the scare you it's all in your head.
Also the screams that you hear down the avenue don't help.

Tower Of Terror is my favourite ride, from queue area to hotel reception to service area to elevator, just fantastic. Now, what's with all these scared adults? My 6 year old is desperate to join his dad on Disney's best ride.

ToT is the ONLY ride (Disney or anywhere else) that I still get that nervous feeling before I go on. I absolutely love it for that reason. I've been on it countless times, when it fell further and how it is today. The queue is incredible. The theming is magnificent. It has that creepy, eerie feel with out being actually scary.

If you think you might only ever ride it once though, ride it at night. The entire experience is exponentially better at night.

Well, after I posted this I went straight to YouTube to actually see what I am afraid of. I've watched it over and over and have decided to just bite the bullet and go for it. I like the fact that all of the ride takes place, then once the narrator quits talking all hell breaks loose. At least I know its coming and can somewhat prepare. Thank you all for your replies and wish me luck!! :hurl:

THE BEST RIDE I HAVE EVER BEEN ON!!! I was soooo nervous my first trip and ended up riding it 6 times!! The theme is just FANTASTIC and I'm ususally laughing so hard from pure joy on the drop and rise sequence that my stomach hurts when I get off!!

It is meant to be scary but don't knock it till you try it : )

I think you will love it. My daughter was 5 the first time she went on it. She was petrified. We told her to try it once and if she didn't like it then we wouldn't go anymore. She still sniffled as we walked up to the elevator. She hung on for dear life to our hands. The ride started and she screamed and screamed. I thought for sure she was going to need therapy. Well, when we got off she was jumping up and down to go on it again. Her and I must have ridden it 10 times. My husband didn't like it at first but he loves it now.

Give it a try, if you don't like it then you don't have to go on it again. That's what happen with me and RnRC. Rode it once and haven't ridden it again.

I have now tried all WDW thrill rides except TOT and MS Orange, but I've decided to brave up and try TOT on our next trip in December because even my daughter who hates big drops on rollercoasters loves it. That said, I must share a funny story. My son first rode TOT at age 7, and when he got off he hesitantly smiled and said he liked it. When my husband excitedly asked if he wanted to go on again, his innocent response was: "Do I have to?" We all cracked up. (Of course, since then he's grown to love it.)

Do you go on Big Thunder Mountain? The drop on Splash Mountain is the only significant drop on the ride and you can see it from outside the ride so it is not an unknown. Everest is marginaly more intense than Big Thunder, in my opinion.

I have to respectfully disagree with this opinion. On our last trip, my bravery included trying E:E for the first time. I enjoy BTMRR but I will never go on E:E again. The drops were simply too intense for me. But at least I tried it!

Jill...Mission Space Orange was our 1st ride at Disney ever. We were newbies and didn't know any better. DD6, DS7, myself, and hubby hopped on it because there was no line. We all came off a little woosey but we survived!! We've not ridden orange since. My husband and son are very prone to motion sickness, me and my daughter faired well but it was INTENSE!

That's a funny story but I'm sure it was not funny at the time! Live and learn!
