So basically you pay money to run around mgm after hours? Sing me up, not.:ROFLOL:

Im thinking its something where you like go to the ToT and actually get to spend some time in there other than the ride, that would be cool.

Runners pay money to run around a lot of things. Races aren't free.

I'm thinking about doing this.

Is that what they are doing for Tower's 13th? Man, what a jiff! I guess instead of giving an after hours event to the people who care about the ride are getting kicked out for runners who could care less.

I thought this ment a riding marathon. Now THAT would be great.

I wonder if the course is going to have any theming? They'll already have to put some sorts of lights up so people don't get hurt, I wonder if any additional measures will be made? Not bad for $65. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the event swag goes on eBay for that much down the road.

it's a road race...NOT a marathon. A marathon is 26.2 miles. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. All other distances are road races.

Why do you think runners don't care about the rides??? I run and love the rides. BTW there is a whole running group called disneydeads- whom travel from all over to come to run at disney becuase we love running and we love disney.

Not to offend runners, just pointing out that it would be unfair to leave all those Tower geeks such as myself without anything to do for the 13th. The people like us (like on that great Tower of Terror site) have been wanting a 13th event or ride-a-thon for awhile, and that a running marathon isn't the same.

I ran the Pirate and Princess 5K at MGM and the Disney Half Marathon this past January. Both took place early in the morning when it was still dark. And let me say that both experiences were once in a lifetime. If I weren't in school during this time and if I actually had the money ('cuz what college kid has money? i mean, come on, seriously) I would totally go to participate.

Anyway, as I was saying, both races were amazing experiences. The 5K at the Studios was well lit, mostly with the same park lights used when it gets dark during park hours. The races are very fun as there are characters all over the place, and it's just plain cool running through the parks when there are no other guests around.

Long in short, if you are a runner, participate in a Disney race! You won't regret it...

ps- Races aren't cheap, but are amazing experiences... :)

Sounds like you'd double and triple back a lot, for a park the size of MGM. Neat idea, though.

Speaking of marathons, a select few in my school are training to have the chance to participate in WDW's Half Marathon (which I think is 13 miles) next January. Guess who might be going? :D

EpcotServo, it is my understanding that you and/or any other ToT fans can still come to this event. It is not only for those who are running. As someone else pointed out, there is a ticket price for the party only and I think it was only $25 or something like that. So Disney's not really leaving anyone out. I mean, it's just the anniversary of a single attraction. It's not like they're going to go all out. This event seems fun to me.

When I read it, it said "additional" party tickets. I think that means family or friends of the runners. At least that's what I thought it ment.

The race goes out to WWS so it is NOT just a lap course. It sounds like a good time. Race, Glow in the Dark shirt, Inaugural ToT medal, party with band for $65. A good deal for Disney:)

This sounds like a good time to me! I'm moving back down to Orlando in Sept and I think I"m going to try to do it!

I've gotten out of shape and I'm wondering if there is a time limit. Does anyone know?

Also where will the after party be? Inside the ToT? That would be amazing!

Let me know, if you guys know or hear anything!

New Version Of Tower Of Terror

If they had thought ahead...they would have updated Tower Of Terror some time last year and branded it Tower Of Terror 5...so that this year, come the 13th anniversary, they could update it again and brand it Tower Of Terror 666

TOWER OF TERROR 5
Face the ghosts of the Hollywood Tower Hotel
As your elevator cart moves out of the first shaft, in the scene with the Twilight Zone Eye, the ghosts can appear on either side of your cart, attempting to "pull you into their realm." With some well conceived graphics and some minor adjustments to the ride system, to "jerk" your cart...this can help increase the thrill and scare factor of the ride.

TOWER OF TERROR 666
An evil spirit has inhabited the Hollywood Tower Hotel...will you be able to take a face to face encounter with it!?!
During the drop sequence, the groans of the evil spirit can be heard from beneath your cart, and when you drop to the lowest level, a heating mechanism can be activated to simulate the presence of the evil spirit, and the cart can be jerked up and down as it currently does in Tower Of Terror 4, but this time, making it seem as if the evil spirit has taken hold of your cart. Then as you ascend back to the top, when the elevator shaft doors open, a transparent screen (something like that used in The Living Seas With Nemo And Friends) can display the image of this evil spirit lunging at your cart, just as you drop again, just in time to escape the evil spirit's grasp.

Just a thought...because I can't understand how a ride like Tower Of Terror can stay at 4...but I can see it making it up to version 6 and staying there!

They should have done something like a contest... Pay $1313 to be in a drawing and only 13 people win... those 13 then have to endure 13 hours of none stop ToT... last man, woman or child standing wins the loot.

I can't wait to do this race. I'm a huge Disney fan and a runner: I did the Disney 1/2 Marathon this January, I'm going up for the Minnie Marathon in May, and will definitely be doing this one too! I've done a few marathons and more running races, triathlons, etc. than I can count, and my experience running a Disney race was my absolute favorite.

So I, for one, am very excited!! :)
