Touringplans.com NOT accurate

So, I decided to spend the day at Hollywood Studios today. I checked Touringplans.com ahead of time to have an idea of what to expect as far as crowds go. Touringplans.com said today was a 1. A 1 out of 10! This is supposed to mean the park should be pretty empty.

WRONG!
I went directly to TSMM thinking I would be able to ride at least a few times with barely a wait. To my dismay, not only was the line at 60 minutes already at 10:50 a.m., the Fastpasses were already sold out. This is not what I expected when I saw the crowd prediction.

I still ended up riding TSMM once, but am disapointed I couldnt ride again. The park was BUSY! I would say the park was more like a 6 or 7/10. No where near a 1.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but Im starting to think that Touringplans.com is just a bunch of bull.:fork:

That's funny because I was also at the Studios today and I did not think the park was crowded at all.

I walked onto Tower of Terror with basically no wait, went to Indiana Jones and Beauty and the Beast at the last minute and there were still plenty of seats available, went to Muppets and the theater was more than half empty, and got right onto the Great Movie Ride without any wait. Even 60 minutes for Toy Story Mania is not that bad.

Also, you have to remember that because of Star Tours being closed this will mean longer lines at the other attractions.

Toy Story Mania always has a wait but 60 min is nothing compared to the 120+ wait I saw in July/August.

Websites can only offer you a estimate of crowd level, estimate being the key word.

JMHO, but I don't think its fair to judge Touring Plans' accuracy based on the wait time for one attraction that happens to be the newest one in that particular park. There's probably a lot of people that only visit once every few years, making TSMM something completely new for them and increasing the demand. Further, CM's have mentioned in other threads that changes made during the last refurb have slowed down the load/unload and caused other issues.

As MS7479A points out, "crowded" is a subjective term. What you felt were large crowds seemed insignificant to him or her. I'd hesitate to call TP "bull" based solely on your own perception. And if you think a 60 minute wait is horrible, its a good thing you didn't visit MK in the early years like I often did.

TSMM is not something to guage the accuracy of touringplans.com by. 60 minutes at 11:00am is actually a decent wait for that ride. When we visited in February, 2009 (a quiet time) the wait for TSMM was 240 at around 6:00pm. The park wasn't even open that long at that point.

My guess if you'd checked other areas of the park you'd have walked onto most or waited 20 minutes or less.

Hate to break it to you , but it sounds pretty dead to me. Its just TSMM is crazy. Touringplans can't guarentee they are right, but are often close enough.

60 minutes for Toy Story Mania would make my day. That's how long the wait for that line is on a slow day. As another poster pointed out, most everything else seemed to be a walk on. Nothing wrong with Touring Plans...

Apparently you do not know how to use Touring Plans. Yes, it may list a 1. However, you should know that TSMM is ALWAYS crowded. A wait of 60 minutes is better than an infinity wait during the summer months. Common sense should say, arrive early and get on TSMM and obtain FP immediately.

I have used touring plans for the past 2 years and I have nothing but positive experiences!!@

Besides, Toy Story will rarely even list a wait below 40 minutes even if it was below 40. The wait time is not always accurate on this attraction, and wait times have jumped since they installed new safety air gates at the station. Expect 60 minute waits to be less crowded and 200+ for very crowded holiday seasons.

Most folks dash to Toy Story right away at park opening. We figure if we can get two rides in first thing thats a good thing. Use Fast Pass too. I've never been able to figure out how a book that's preprinted can predict a parks hours. Things change, crowds, weather, events...

I was at HS Tuesday and it was overall empty, however the Toy Story ride was giving out fastpasses for 3:30pm when I arrived at 9:30am and the line was at 60 minutes.

By the way, the Touring Plans iPhone app was so accurate on the ride wait times for all days I was at the parks that I knew exactly where to go and how long I would have to wait.

TSM will always have a long wait and FP will always be gone before noon regardless of the date or crowd level as it is the most popular attraction at DHS. I have lost count of the number of times that I have been on that attraction and the only time I have seen the stand by wait under an hour was during the last Tour to Endor special event.

You cannot judge park crowds from the most overly crowded ride in a single park. Preparation is more important. TSMM is the busiest attraction by far. How was the rest of the park? Probably it was nearly empty with 10-15 minute waits.

I remember when BTMRR opened. The lines were atrocious. I think it was the year it opened, the line went back to PotC. When you got up close to the entrance, the queues wrapped back and forth all over the place. It was 2-hours when you got to the sign.

I won't dispute the accuracy of Touringplans.com because I don't have a lot to base it on other than personal experience in certain situations. It is a hit and miss thing for me. I don't use it because I've been to WDW so many times that DH and I have a plan for our family that works. We used it once or twice as a planning tool and found ourselves depressed by the crowd estimates. Anyway, judging the accuracy of touring plans based on TSMM is not fair. DH and I were at WDW the year that Everest opened (like a few weeks afterward) and thought the rush to it was pretty amazing. They were herding people behind a rope. However, we've never seen anything like TSMM. Even three years after opening, it's CRAZY.

We were in DHS the last week in Aug. I know touring plans put the park at a 3, I had expected it to be easier to get on TSM, but when we arrived at the park around 10:30am the FP's were all gone and the wait was already at 120min, all other rides TOT, RnR, Star Wars were around 20min. Also if you look at Touring plans it will give an idea for the crowd calendar the main attractions like TSM waits at peak time might still be higher than other rides so I will say that the 60 min sounds about right based on how it is gauged.

I understand though it is a little disapointing when you really want to ride something and the wait times seem like it will take away from most of your time in the park.
