I just think its ridiculous that you believe a home made video can substitute for hearing it in person.

What is your problem? Show some respect! I just stated my opinion! Never forced anyone else to believe it! Ooh, and this one is just for you:

All the lines in the video, including the ones spoken when Serling is visible, were dubbed over by the impersonator. That way people won't notice that he isn't a perfect match (not to mention the potential problem of the background music). Listen to the "Introduction Clip From 'It's a Good Life' Episode" clip from this page. It does sound different from the one in the library.

Sorry..I wasn't thinking when I wrote that. :hammer:

I meant to say that the impersonator does the entire opening, however, the imagineers didn't use any CGI to make Serlings lips move to the what the impersonator was saying. Instead, they used all stock footage and just "enhanced" it a little.

I apologize...sorry again.

In the opening, when Serling points to the elevator, they cut away very quickly. However, in the orginal episode he points to a map.:)

I'm not taking sides in this little "tift" However, could you both just drop it?

Thanks.

Another vote for the DCA voice sounding crappy by comparison.... however, the guy is 10 years older now... you can't expect his voice to have stayed the same.

If you take a look I already pointed out there is no need to argue over this.

I keep forgetting when I'm on the WDW section of the board that I can sometimes be talking to a 15 year old, and not someone my age or older when I'm in the Disneyland section.

What does that have to do with anything? Sorry for sounding disrespectful but you sound like the "kiddie" out of the two of us. You are arguing over MY opinion! How on earth is that possible?

EDIT: I'll just back off. I'm done with this thread. Enjoy your time with adults!

Does WDW's 'library' have a window outside that is all stormy a la Haunted Mansion? Just curious.

Yes, it does. Thanks for getting your report up, and so quickly! I predict ToT will be a large California hit.

DCA's budget was cut as well. They had plans to do entirely new elevator cars that would be able to tip sideways... out the window cause of the budget. :(

Less than a month ago you stated that the vehicles are capable of doing exactly that, but Disney is just waiting a few years before they make it happen.

Bull pies, says I.

I think there's alot of confusion in this thread, in fact, I think there's two people arguing over two very different things, but maybe I'm just losing it? :hammer: Anyway, the pre-show video sounds perfect, just as WDW's does, however, the narration of the actual ride, while you're in the elevator, is horrible. We have the ol' Twilight Zone himself in our elevators, the DCA, well, I hope they weren't going for Sterling, because it's nothing like it, and it's not creepy. It doesn't work.

Yeah, I did say that. It was from Jon, when he was out there in Glendale a while ago. Now he went out to Disneyland Resort about 2 weeks ago and rode ToT. He asked what happend to the tipping cars, and said the budget was taken out for them. He made a public apology on my forums. So, yeah, I know it's what I said before. And it was true at the time from what Jon told me, but he had not been updated on ToT, as that's not something he worked on.

Okay, just got home from DL, and here's my take on it!

Personally, I think WDW and DCA are dead even in my book. Each has its pros and cons.

WDW's outdoor queue area beats DCA's hands down. One thing I noticed right off the bat about DCA's queue is there is a large section (right next to the building, the switchbacks, for those who have been on it already) of the queue that has next to no shade, no fans, and no misters. Methinks they will see a LOT of cranky, hot guests waiting there this summer.

DCA's boiler room area beats WDW's hands down. I walked into there and was CREEPED OUT. There's one boiler that looks to me like a big face, and it was creepy. :p The two stories also makes it feel more cavernous.

In the SFX department, I call it a tie. The little ghosts segment is very similar on both (DCA uses the elevator rather than a window). Where WDW has the horizontal movement (which I personally have never found that impressive, but that's just me), DCA has the mirror effect, which was pretty well done.

As for the ride sequence... well, DCA's definitely caught me by surprise! I was dropped when I wasn't expecting it at all at one point. Overall, I'd call them pretty even here, too.

Now, as to this whole voice over debate... do you mean the video in the library? It seemed to me to be the EXACT SAME video as at WDW, just with DCA's tower inserted into the exterior shots rather than WDW's tower. As to the narration in the tower... well, it certainly never struck me as being bad. Sounded great to me!

I have to agree - don't just judge something by a video. Seeing it on video and experiencing it yourself are two VERY different things. Don't knock it til you've tried it.

I also have a few photos up that I took at http://xfkirsten.fotopic.net

You know what Kirsten...I think we were thinking the same thing...there is one point I'm like...o.k. we are going up now...and BOOM you gut tugged down...or at least in the opposite direction that you expect. It TOTALLY rocked....THAT right there made it far more neck and neck for me.

It is hard to judge, and I think you are on to something about them being neck and neck. Maybe I'm just a geek and am easily impressed by novelty engineering like the forward moving cabin...but there is also that cool doorway of light thing...I don't know. Its tough.

I thought it was the exact same video...just different building insert. It maybe my poor memory though.

To me the advantage for DCA is the newness of it all...it really says a lot when everything is very clean, the mechanics are running unbelievably smooth. And they've taken extra time in adding some extra touches to a ride. Maybe because its so close to us we'd be partial.

Tough call. The way you described it made me want to ride it again.

For me the clincher definitely was in that one surprise drop. that's the first thing I told my wife about...that's when I really started yelling/screaming (RU's video should be hillarious...I tried not to swear).

Your shots are great by the way...my batteries died (brought like two extra pair from the house at last minute, also dead).

Us Disneylanders are totally going to have to set up a day (when its not 100 degrees out) where we ride it like banchees. Apparently there is a random element to it...so that could be super cool. You got me exited about the ride again

What are you talking about . . . narration in the ride?

I swear folks...please stop talking about the ride unless you actually have ridden the ride. Armchair riders? No thanks, a crappy home made video is not a basis for judging this ride. As baby Michelle would say on Full House: Pulease.

There is tiny, minor small segment when you are pulled back and maybe there is someone talking, Rod or someone about a "most uncommon elevator".

First off...if you are on the elevator...its noisey, you can't hear anything all to clear because people like me are already freaking out...let alone could a tiny mic from a $300 camcorder over your computer speakers allow for an audible experience.

It sounded just fine. Don't knock it until you ride it!

My point stands: DO NOT JUDGE that ride until you've have RIDDEN IT PERSONALLY! :fork: :zipit:

Yup, that's the exact drop I was thinking of. Loved that part!! And I really do think the library video is the exact same, with the exception of the DCA tower shots. I've been on WDW's dozens of times, and I didn't notice anything else different about this one.

Thanks for the compliment on the photos! :) I took a whole bunch in there, but I didn't want to use flash cause I didn't want to annoy the other people in line, so the slow shutter speed really made it hard to get good ones. Those were the best of the bunch. I made sure I charged my batteries right before I left. ;)

And yes, definitely a Disneylander day on ToT! I still say it wasn't 100 today, there's no way it was that hot... or maybe I'm way too accustomed to heat. :p

Well, the guy at the loader station for Mickey and Friends tram had a temp. gauge and announced it was 100, and soon it crept up to 102. I know in my car it said 100 as I got on the freeway on the 5 by Ball.

I swear, that one drop..totally unexpected. I wonder if that's what added some more time after Eisner wanted more time. Hey, he's good for something!

You are heard quite clearly on the recording - lol. And not too bad, only one mild expletive.
