We're also under a hurricane warning. The mayor/sheriff/emergency crew have asked everyone to be off the roads by 8PM. The bridges will be closed if there are sustained winds of 40+mph.

It appears that good news for us (the storm looks like it's going to pass SE of us, rather than over us ) is terrible news for WDW.

I just talked to friends in Clermont that just spent an hour under a mattress in a closet under a tornado warning. Everything is fine for them right now and they were having a bit of a break before the next storm hits. She said they're predicting it to hit around 6:00 and have sustained winds of 50-74 mph for the next 12 hours. To everyone down there--take care and stay safe.

On the side that I find rather humorous, she said they went to the Grand Floridian for dinner last night and the cast members were sinking all the pool furniture in the pool to get ready for the storm. That's a pretty clever way to keep things from blowing away. It must have been quite a sight though. She said she got photos of that and all the beach furniture tied to the trees. Can't wait to see those!

It is -5 GMT, Al. And looking at Corrus's helpful maps, I'd say a good few hours yet. Probably 2 or 3am GMT.

Picked up of of CNN.com...

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center lost part of its roof to intense winds. Local television stations showed footage of flooded docks and battered buildings missing roofs and shutters. And the Cape Coral Hospital in Fort Myers lost much of its roof, Mayor Jim Humphrey told CNN.

Stay safe everyone!

the winds are picking up...just saw this on the Sentinal.com.....

"The first serious storm-related accident in Central Florida occurred at 4:15 p.m. today on the Beeline Expressway where a young girl was killed and five others were injured when the wind forced a semitrailer to spiral out of control and land on a car, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Miller said.

Miller said severe winds caused a semitrailer traveling westbound on the Beeline to cross over to oncoming traffic near State Road 520 and land atop a car carrying a man and a woman and three children, two boys and one girl."
