I am going to Walt Disney World with my 4 year old daughter. I was wondering what everyone thought about Kali River Rapids, Sorin' and Splash Mountain? Has anyone taken their 4 year old on? Thoughts, opinions? I have been on all of them but I am still not sure if they are ok for this age. Thanks!

I think it all depends on their temperment. I found a good test is to find a kiddie-coaster (lots of the zoos around here have versions) and see what their response to that is. If they are not thrilled with it, then they are definitely not ready for them. On the other hand, if the minute they get off they start begging to go again, and if they are just THRILLED when Grandpa shows them how much more fun it is to hold your hands in the air the entire time (like my daughter was, much to my dismay), then they ARE ready :D

Also bear in mind that they must be 40" or taller to ride both rides.

obviously it all depends on the child; My kids loved all these rides at that age..I am a big chicken and will not go on Splash although I do go on the others..My mother always forced me to go on rides and I think that is why I am such a chicken now so my feelings with my kids is this--I will not make them go on anything, but I will also not stop them from trying either. My 5 y/o just went on Tower of Terror for the first time last month and LOVED it--you would never find me on it!!

We just got back and took the WHOLE family, we had like 30 some adults and countless numbers of kids and the only ones that bothered the kids were Snow White and Dinosaur. Dinosaur got all the kids that were able to ride the youngest that really wanted to go on was 5 and the oldest 12. They were all shell shocked. Needless to say they got over it though at Magic Kingdom later on.

Splash: Fun for everyone if they can handle the drop, Either fastpass or ride during Electrical Parade.

Soarin: Motion Sickness possibility, also fear of heights warning

Kali: Nothin really except you will get SOAKED!

Hope this helps.

I can tell you I took my son on when he was an old 3 and he loves both Splash, Big thunder MRR, that's his fav and soarin' so I would say give them a try.

My daughter loved BTMRR at three also. She did not enjoy Splash at that age, but not because of the drop. She was scared of the dark, so the part of the ride that is in darkness with the blacklight bees sort of ruined it for her. We stayed off of the dark rides until we went back with her at 6.

Yeah I can understand how they wouldn't like some of the dark spots. I just know one of the kids that we had with us doesn't really like any kind of rides that aren't in Fantasyland, (7 year old too?) Crazy isn't it?? Anyways they didn't handle the drop very well, the picture shows her just clinging on to her dad as tight as she can.

All those rides are wonderful, if your child meets the height requirement, but one thing to consider, on all of the listed rides, with the slight exception of Splash, your daughter can't cuddle into you if she gets scared. On Soarin and Kali she will have to remain in her own seat and you may have a hard time consoling her if the need arises. My daughter sat between my husband and I for Splash (she just turned 5), and she was ok, she didn't like the drop so she didn't ride again but it was easier for her to take sandwiched between me and her daddy. We opted out of taking her on Soarin and Kali for the reasons expressed above. (stitch too... don't do it!!) Anyhow have a great time! She'll love whatever you do!!!

My DD was 4 last summer.
She rode Kali River Rapids & loved it.
She was too short for Soarin' & Splash Mt., but not this year!:D

DS loved Kali. He's just about 40" now and cannot wait to try Splash and BTMRR. I will not take him on ToT though I think that will be WAY to scary.

When my one son was four he was tall enough to ride everything . He did not like the Haunted Mansion but still did it, and he thought Dinosaur was to rough because it jerked him around . He loved all of the other rides . At that trip he also chose not to do Tower of Terror but the next year did everything and loved all the rides. Splash Mountain is still one of his favorites.

It definitely all depends on your child. The only ride of those 3 that I would question would be Splash - my son was terrified of the drop (still is), but my daughter loved it. The other 2 rides are pretty tame. In fact when we went last May we were in line behind a little girl who was unsure about going on Soarin'. I told her what was going to happen (the seats rising, and the seatbelts), and she absolutely loved it!

Have a great time!

We just got back last weekend from a trip to WDW, and we took my 5 year old niece on Dinosaur. It was completely her choice, we sat her down on at least 3-4 occasions and told her how scary it was and that things would jump out at her, but she was insistant on riding it and that she was not going to be scared. After the first 2 seconds she had her face buried in my wifes lap with her hands over her face. It traumatized her for the rest of the week, any attraction that was even semi dark got her worked up and afraid something was going to jump out. She was afraid of the tiki room of all things. :brick: Thats the first and last time we allow her to make her own choice to ride something or not. Luckily it didn't give her nightmares tho.

We intentionally skipped stitch because we were pretty sure it would scare the bejeezes out of her. Well that and the fact that I can't stand that attraction and refuse to ride on it. :p

Last year my daughter was 4 and she enjoyed Splash Mountain, Hauted Mansion, and even Dinosaur. She cant wait to go on Splash Mountain again. The funny thing is she will not go anywhere near the charecters. Cant wait to see what this year brings.

Maybe try to explain to the child what exactly the ride is. For instance, when we were at EPCOT in January, we had a family with a young child ahead of us in line for Soarin'. The family had a young girl about 4 or 5 years old who was bawling her eyes out, terrified of the ride. My dad, spending the past 6 years working with kids, squatted down next to the girl and explained to her that Soarin' was like watching a movie of mountains where you felt like you're flying.

Possibly for Splash you could explain that you get to go into a cartoon on a boat ride. Try to explain to your daughter something she would understand, making it somewhat less than it really is, such as the fact that Soarin' is "a movie where you feel like you're flying."

Hope this helps! :)

i think my mom had trouble with this too. my brother and i were forced to go on EVERYTHING. i loved it but he didnt and he still doesnt to this day and blames my parents for forcing him. but now i have a 7 year old brother and he has been to WDW 4 times and hasnt ridden Splash or soarin or BTMRR but says he wants to try them on our next trip in 2 weeks. so i think since we told him what the rides were and what was going to happen and let him decide was the best choice. but like everyone said all kids are different. hope you have a nice trip
