I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but does anyone else feel like too much Potter could be bad? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and have read the series 3 times, but I feel like Potter is over-taking Universal. I love, love, love The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but with the Potter 2.0 stuff going on, I feel like too much of it could be bad in the long-run and having two very similar themed lands in both parks seems... Weird to me.

Thoughts? :(

I would have preferred Potter not expand into USF. Is it a bad thing? That depends entirely on the quality and appeal of the attractions themselves. I'm not a Potter fan, but I can always appreciate a well done attraction. I just wish it didn't come at the cost of Jaws.

I loved Amity. They should have just gave Jaws a major update (not so much by ruining the attraction) and added a new attraction. I don't know. I mean, I'm sure it will be amazing, but I'm also not sure it fits in as much as it does at IOA.

From a business perspective, Potter expansion into USF is a great idea. It should help distribute crowds at both parks and give people a reason to purchase park hoppers. Putting in the back of the parks is also a great strategy. This were where the fewest people are at opening. By putting them in the back, crowds will be more evenly distributed in the parks at opening.

It appears Potter is still the "hot" property. Universal is doubling-down their bet, always risky. I'm still waiting for WDW to announce something that will take away Universal's thunder. FLE, Avatarland (if that still happens), and Carsland will help but WDW needs something bigger.

And for me that's one of the most exciting parts of the expansion. It will be the first of its kind. A land that spreads into two parks and is connected thematically.

Jaws was ok, but I didn't have any sentimental connection to it. After all, the REAL Jaws is still on the tram in Hollywood.

Honestly I think that the stories of Harry Potter have so much material within the series that spreading the attractions between the two parks would be fine. Now if there were to be a new resort themed to the series it might then be a little over kill but at this point now I don't see Universal doing that anytime soon.

I think the overall gains not just to the parks, but to the general body of themed entertainment, offsets the negatives of a large presence and the loss of Jaws. We will probably never again see something like Jaws and that is a shame. Amity itself I always thought was rather lame.

I think the use of London also opens up the door for adjacent, non-related projects suited to the London theme.

If they start going crazy and adding rides/shows/stores/parades etc...at every possible turn then and only then would it be bad.

I don't think that will be a problem considering the tight grip held on the intellectual property.

The real strength of the Harry Potter world as applies to theme parks is that its mythology and aesthetic is so closely linked to classic images and environments.

Imagine for a moment all the Harry Potter stuff built so far wasn't themed after a book/movie series.
Snow-covered English village selling magical trinkets, food, and candy, sprawling ruins with dragons lurking inside and out, a huge forced-perspective castle on a hill...
...still pretty awesome, isn't it?

The expansion looks good too, on its own terms. Old London with lots of alleys and secrets...

When they start building, I dunno, that dingy cafe they had the fight in in the last movie, then maybe that's too much potter.

You prefer a short tram segment with a shark that mechanically belly flops in and out of the water over an actual boat ride? o_O Different strokes I guess, but the only thing that comes to mind when I see Hollywood's Jaws is "old and stupid."

No, I'd say with this expansion we will be at just the right spot for potter.

I agree, but Potter must be contained :P

I agree. I think this expansion of Potter is brilliant in concept. I can't wait to see it realized! I bet it's going to be amazing.

The character universe is easy to expand... It builds on classic England... And people can role play. It's got legs

As long as uni does not bury its other children.. All will be fine

I mean turn this around.... Is there such a thing as too much Mickey?? He wasn't even the most succeeded character to many people, but he's always the #1 choice to be the spokesman.. Regardless of topic

Oh, it's hokey, no doubt. A second Potter expansion or a few robotic sharks? Easy choice for me.

We should rename the thread

Do you think making record profits is a good or bad thing?
Isn't that what they're doing at WDW without HP, without Avatar land, without a third evening EMH, without printed napkins. Hum. Is there a pattern here? Universal fans get more and the company has record profits. WDW fans get less and the company has record profits.
