Tony's Town Square Restaurant introduces new Main Street Electrical Parade viewing package

So I guess I'm old too! :D Some of my favorite memories involve Tony's in the early '90s. It was a tradition for a few years when we visited in December: we'd wait about 2 hours for a table at dinner, (this was when their food was great - before dining plans and ADRs existed.)

We would put our name in with the hostess and specifically request a patio table, trying to time it as close to 9ish as possible. Then we'd watch the entire Candlelight Procession from our table...because it was held on the stage in front of the main street train station back then. We used to say that the only thing missing was a good glass of chianti to make the night complete.

Now THAT's a viewing package...only there was no such thing as a package. You waited for a table and then enjoyed the show. Good times :inlove:

How long until Admission ticket w/ ride package? Admission ticket will get you a stroll through the turnstiles... after that it is all an up charge. Parades and shows will be priced based on seat section(1st come/1st seated). Sorry you want a picture of the Castle or other park icon with your family.... you will have to buy the parks with pictures package and that will be $50 please. A tiered based ride pricing for even more $$$. .The soda package will become a best seller...serve warm soda unless they purchase the package and add $4 for the ice. The almighty M&Gs will be tier priced also... the more popular, you know the more $ it will be. If you want some popcorn it will now be sold (at current price) for as how much you can hold with your hands cupped together, unless you purchase the package for the box/bag which is double the price.

Shanghai will be paid off in no time!

It would have been a bit more profitable to offer this as a "Sparkling Breakfast at Tony's plus Electrical Parade Viewing" Package. There is precedent there, Tony's has served breakfast in the past (yes, I'm really old).

I must be old too, because I also remember breakfast at Tony's. It was good. This was in the days when you could just show and wait for a table. It was nice eating outside watching the crowds heading to Main Street in the morning, kind of like the Carnation Cafe at Disneyland.

That was basically already done in the early years of DL and WDW
You know except in 1955 there was a $1 dollar entrance fee....even with inflation that wouldn't add up to the insane price it is for one day in the park.

I cannot believe that they continue to blow me away with these upcharge and package deals. It is seriously getting harder and harder to find real good seating for a parade at Magic Kingdom without buying a package.

Serious question.

We're all quick to jump on The Mouse for continually introducing new up-charge packages & extra cost offerings.

But who the heck is buying all this stuff?

Are these packages selling so well that TDO will just keep introducing more until we've reached the saturation point (which I don't think we're even close to yet).

I wonder not as much about Disney creating these packages, as I do about who continues to pay for what was once included with admission. It doesn't require someone at Disney with an MBA to ask "why are we offering many things for 'free' when so many will pay extra for it? We can sell that spot on the sidewalk for more money."

I don't worry about more packages like this. I worry about the ideas to come.

Ehh. It's only one spot in town square near the flag pole. I can't think of of any areas that have a block off for the parades. Even the festival of fantasy parade FP area is that same spot.
FP takes place in the Hub. You can still find a good spot if you arrive early enough but it gets harder and harder.

You know what's funny?

Ahh. Ok. I assumed FP for the night parade was near the flag pole as well. I always make sure to do the late parade if I want to catch it so never have an issue. Of course, that option doesn't work for everyone.

Do they even care if they sell well though? Recently they just seem to announce them one after the other whether the previous ones were successful or not. I wouldn't be surprised to see these types of packages to become the norm as the restaurants and entertainment will be there regardless of the number of packages sold. This costs Disney nothing unlike the before/after park hours or dessert parties. Hopefully they don't sell well and Disney will back off, but that's not likely in this era of "gotta do everything Disney offers regardless of price or value!"

It just dawned on me that WDW has fully adopted a Spirit Airlines (and now most others) approach. Offer less and charge more if you want the extras. It seems to be working for Spirit (sadly), but theme parks aren't airlines, and no one is thinking value when they see Disney's prices.

The problem is there are way more people that are not as experienced at WDW as most of us on here. They are newbies to WDW and casual visitors and do not know how it was, they just know what it is now and what they have to do for good seats. Some slick WDW marketing and they will be thinking it a a great option for them to be guaranteed a prime spot for a parade.

I have zero problems with any of these packages Disney is offering. And please Disney, start charging for EMH already!!!!! Preferably at around $100/person
